Hi Guys,
I have a challenge at work:
A piece of software creates a local back up of a remote database when you log on.
This database needs to be encrypted.
Users have saved it into their 'my documents' which is encrypted (company policy) and everyone is happy.
However, upon upgrading the software (my job package/test/resolve issues etc) it has become apparent that 'system' needs to read that file to complete the upgrade.
It can't due ot user private key encryption, despite having access/rights to the folder.
OK. So, we have deiced to move the file and auto save it on the C:\ so that the location is decided for the user and it is no longer encrypted, so now bingo my upgrade won't fail.
BUT - They want this file encrypted as its of a sensitive nature.
My QU: Is there a way to encrypt a file so that both user & system can read/edit it?
I don't think so from what Ive read online. Not with EFS - Cipher.exe commands don't seem to be extensive enough.

You can encrypt any individual file or folder.
Does the upgrade require access to the file? Or is it just the folder?
If it's the folder encrypt the file not the folder, or create another folder secure that and put the file in there.
If this upgrade needs access to the file, basically you're fucked  |
