Managed to hit my thumb with a lump hammer whilst putting fence posts in Sad .
After three hours of it throbbing I decided to take the Dremel to it and drill a hole. I carefully drilled where the bruise was blackest near the nail bed and got a squirt of blood when I broke through. Pain relief was almost instant Smile

Drilling the nail is the best thing, doesn't even hurt - unless you press too hard Very Happy

I used to use sewing needles to burrow into the nail to let the blood out, relief is tremendous. Thumbs Up!

Brother in law managed to hit his hand (while it was on a post) with one of these.

It was mashed but all stitched back together and now a year later more or less full working order.

Nicely drilled and accurate. Did you use a centre punch first? Mr. Green

Its the same method that they would have used in A&Eexcept they would have used a heated needle.

Pain is pressure, relieve the pressure and alls good.

I did it at work yesterday changing the disc on a grinder, the spanner slipped and twatted my thumb, que a massive blood blister and shitloads of bruising underneath, got a bit of welding wire and shoved it underneath my nail, popped the blister and it was one of the BEST feelings ever how the pain just went away within seconds, was mega impressed. Laughing

BCF : Proving that surgical procedures don't have to be left to the professionals.

I've not had anything so dramatic, but I did slice my forearm open once, waited hours for someone to stick it back together with a steristrip (fancy selotape) bandage it, and find out weeks later, that they hadnt pulled the sides of the wound together or it had come unstuck, so it healed open.

I now have a semi-interesting eye-shaped scar.

If I had not relied on 'professionals' I could have stuck it together better by myself.

It's called Trepanning in the medical circles.
But a better less painful way is a roastin' hot paper clip pushed through the nail.
It's sterile after heating cherry red in a lighter and there is no sensitizing the wound before hand.
Press the wounded digit on a table.
Heat up the paper clip.
Press through the nail.
Et vwa la... the bubble bursts with minimum discomfort.

Nail is horn and melts like plastic/candle wax if enough heat is applied.
