I need a brake disc and caliper to fit a brake to my lathe spindle. Don't want a bicycle one as the discs and calipers are too flimsy, I'd prefer a thicker motorcycle disc but smallest diameter, since the braking forces are a small fraction of what they would be on a bike. Having a small-ish center-hole would also be a bonus but not strictly necessary.

What should I look out for?

A Hope/Hayes DH disc may be man enough for the job Wink

Hey, that's pretty good - and the price is good too! A wavy disc on my lathe is a bit cheesy but you can't argue with the value Smile

I'd say this.

I've got a Midi Moto in the garage and the discs are pretty tiny but I can't help but think they're of similar quality to that of a middle of the road disc braked pedal bike.

Cheers,
Steve.

120mm and 140mm under £4 delivered. Of course, quality is likely to be questionable.

Ive got some standard discs and the 'calipers' from a mini moto/pit bike thing. (EDIT: SEE ABOVE< SAME AS THOSE DISCS) The calipers are cable operated. If your local, feel free to pick them up Smile

hydraulic disc brakes off a downhill mountain bike will definitely sort you out.... plus the discs themselves will be far cheaper and youll have a pretty big choice of sizes.
