Famous? Smoke on the water by Deep Purple or The Chain (3:00) by Fleetwood Mac.

Best is a different story.

Money for nothing, Hotel California, Sunshine of your love to name some you could recognise in an instant.

Come to think of it, I think that wish you were here by Pink Floyd has gained recognition, as have a couple of T Rex riffs.

And there's always The Kinks with You really got me now, unforgettable!

+1

There are so many great ones to chose from that chosing a best is impossible. I'd agree that the most famous is smoke on the water but that isnt the best. Its simple and catchy and piss easy to play.

The Animals, House of The Rising Sun.

I dread to think how many times I've heard it done by pub bands! That bloody riff gets under your skin!

I seem to remember hearing a few years back that 'Layla' was officially the most famous riff of all time

I rest my case Very Happy

Try to imagine how many people stared when I took my then wife to a Clapton gig in Helsinki some years ago and lost her in the crowd. I was calling her name...

Which was 'Leila' (pronounced the same) Embarassed
