 |
|
Hi all,
Had a wheel bearing start sounding non too healthy on the way to work this morning, I dont really want to risk riding on it other than getting home tonight. I do need it sorted for this weekend (Oulton park BSB).
A bit of googling and ive found a bearings list => https://www.bikebearingshop.co.uk/C8.htm
GSXR750 K4 6205 2RS,6205 2RS,60/28 2RS,60/28 2RS.
Ive got a friend to pick the correct (if i trust that list, anyone else with a k4 750?) bearings up from the local bearing shop and drop them over to mine to fit later.
Whilst looking for the bearings which i found on wemoto they do a dust seal and bearing kit => https://www.wemoto.com/bikes/Suzuki/GSXR_750_K4/04/picture/Front_Wheel_Bearing_Kit_with_Dust_Seals/
Question is can i reuse the dust seals i already have? Just to get through this weekend then replace them at a later date? or is it worth ordering the wemoto kit above and hoping they arrive in time? I`ve already got the bearings now but ill just keep them as spares.
Getting quite frustrated as im stuck at work with a big weekend planned but feeling rather stuck with time running out.

You don't really need the dust seals.
The "2RS" part of the bearing number means 2 rubber seals. The bearings are sealed anyway.
For reasons I am totally unable to fathom. The Japanese still fit new motorbikes with open bearings and a seperate dust seal.
I usually bung the old dust seals back on after fitting replacement rubber sealed bearings but I don't expect them to do anything functional. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Cheers Scott.
I thought that might be the case, i`ll give the old ones a good scrubbing over, theres no damage i can see so hopefully it should be ok.
As a side note lithium, copper or no grease when fitting them? Personally i`d grease them lightly for the anti seize properties but then again they`re a tolerence fit. ____________________ Cbt-23/09/07.....Theory-16/09/08.....Das passed 10/10/08.....

Bearing seats should be clean, smooth metal.
The bearings themselves already have grease in them.
I usually put a smear of copper grease on the spindle so it comes out easily (the bearings shouldn't be turning on the spindle anyway, the inner races stay still on the spindle, the bearing turns).
I have known people remove one of the rubber seals on each bearing, fit the first bearing so the open side is towards the middle, install the spacer, then pack the middle of the hub arund the spacer with LM grease before installing the other bearing on top of it (open side towards the middle).
To be honest, this seems like overkill. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
