Hi

Might be nice but can't help feeling that it is a suicide note from Lotus. They already tried and failed to move upmarket in the 1970s, retreating back with the Elan and Elise in the 1990s to the markets that contain people who will buy a Lotus.

Any number of companies will sell you a £100k car.

All the best

Keith

True Keith, the comments section makes for interesting reading. Ranging from responses like mine to ones far gloomier than yours.

You're right of course, they don't have the premium cachet of Jag/Aston but on paper it looks rather promising. I doubt there will be that many prepared to take the plunge come 2014 unless every petrolhead is desperate for a KERS powered GT.

Hi

Just read the comments.

There seems to be claims that the Elise hasn't made money. This seems to be based on comments that they hadn't made money over the last 15 years or so, but not whether that is over the whole 15 years or in none of those 15 years. If it is over the whole 15 years then hardly a surprise when they have only just launched the Evora and had stuff all time to recoup any of their investment in building it.

At £100k plus they are competing with Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, etc. Well beyond the prices of the Audi R8, various Porsches, Maseratis, etc.

All the best

Keith

I think they are selling it at $75,000 which equates to £40,000.

EDIT: just found a UK price, which is £47.5k.

https://www.evo.co.uk/news/evonews/234543/lotus_evora_prices.html

an audi r8 is more like £85k

You are referring to the Evora prices, not the above new Elite with an expected price tag in excess of £100k.

All the best

Hi

First car I was ever in was a Lotus. An Elan S2 SE.

If they carry on getting bigger then in a few years I will be able to take my last car trip in a Lotus hearse.

All the best

Not much of a car person tbh, but from a solely aesthetic point of view I prefer the elise in yellow or orange.
All irrelevant though, as I'd have to be earning serious bucks to even consider spending more than £3k (let alone 30k) on a bloody cage. Much more interesting things to buy Twisted Evil

They are toying with the idea of building 25 cars. Expected to cost a huge amount of money. They're based on a Ferrari F430 Scuderia.

Although I broadly agree with you, it's bang in line with the equivalent R8 pricing (see below). If it really can produce those quoted performance figures then you need to be comparing it with the 911 Turbo (£106k). The cheapest Lamborghini is £149k and there's no Maserati which matches the (quoted) straight line figures. However, I'd need to it to be notably cheaper than the competition if I was in the market for a £100k supercar and Lotus were trying to tempt me.

colin1 wrote:

That's the small 4.2 litre one. The Lamborghini-engine sourced 5.2 V10 (which has comparable performance, based on that Lotus article) is £106k.
