i often leave batterys on over night, but i guess the optimate's and modern trickle chargers are okay.
But, after seeing this, im not going to do it anymore!

I think this must refer to the bog standard linear output chargers and not the likes of optimate etc. Otherwise Ive got a deathtrap in the garage that has been on for weeks, dental records may be required ____________________ RS125 > CBR6 > SV650S > ZX636R > GSX1300RZ Hayabusa > 06 RSVR Mille > SV1000S > Street Triple 765 RS |

Battery charging, eh? That's a good one.

Batteries produce hydrogen when charging.
Hydrogen is extremely easily ignited.
It is exploxsive.
Batteries should always be charged in a ventilated area.
This outfit look like they lived on Supermarket Brand RichTea and coffee/Pot Noodles.
I would expect to see a place like this looking like this regulary.
No excuse for this kind of 'business'.
It is why HSE have any sort of reason to be.
I use a Hien Gericke charger on my bike but it is maintained. Not just 'kept working'.
The Police line is on upside down. Even they can't do a proper job.
Did the police 'Charge' him BTW? ____________________ W-ireless A-rtificial L-ifeform L-imited to O-bservation P-eacekeeping and E-fficient R-epair |

No.. Hydrogen will build up in an unventilated space.
Enough concentration of H and sufficient 0 results in an explosive mixture.
Wiky sez:
Hydrogen gas (dihydrogen or molecular hydrogen)[10] is highly flammable and will burn in air at a very wide range of concentrations between 4% and 75% by volume.[11] The enthalpy of combustion for hydrogen is −286 kJ/mol:[12]
2 H2(g) + O2(g) → 2 H2O(l) + 572 kJ (286 kJ/mol)[note 1]
Hydrogen gas forms explosive mixtures with air in the concentration range 4–74% (volume per cent of hydrogen in air) and with chlorine in the range 5–95%. The mixtures spontaneously detonate by spark, heat or sunlight. The hydrogen autoignition temperature, the temperature of spontaneous ignition in air, is 500 °C (932 °F).[13] Pure hydrogen-oxygen flames emit ultraviolet light and are nearly invisible to the naked eye, as illustrated by the faint plume of the Space Shuttle main engine compared to the highly visible plume of a Space Shuttle Solid Rocket Booster.
The battery charger could easily ignite the gas from a switch spark when cycling on and off (or if there is a thermal cut-out).
Simple overheating could cause a conductor to set fire to other combustibles in the vicinity.
Calor Gas equipment leaks.... The fire dept. have loads of info on this.
As was said, Poor House Keeping.
Fire needs three things:
Oxygen.
Heat.
Fuel.
Remove one and fire will not be supported. ____________________ W-ireless A-rtificial L-ifeform L-imited to O-bservation P-eacekeeping and E-fficient R-epair |

the volumes of hydroen and the size of that unit, which is hardly looking air tight, I just can't see the build up ...
it is more likely it was electrucal heat or chemical heat. ... or perhaps petrol vapour and electrical spark? ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |

I quite agree, but there was also a mini in there |
That is even better, 4 metros and a mini, fucking win!
On a more serious note, a battery could easily do this, mate of mine works with battery operated vehicles, and I do help out a fair bit with them, batteries are something not to be fucked about with, they can and will explode if hydrogen can build up, and when they explode, the explode big time, known of one to punch a hole through the side of a Land Rover, got some pictures somewhere of a few batteries that came off one machine that was left to charge constantly, they melted together.
I am always wary of batteries seeing the damage they can cause, looking at the Metros and the bikes etc in there, easily a battery explosion hitting something flammable like a car seat, then a small fire starts, then a big fire etc. |
