Hi

Whoops. Any idea what caused that? Possibly the thrust bearing breaking up in style.

All the best

Kickstart.

Absolutly no idea... first i knew about it was when i changed down a couple of gears approaching an island and gassed it as i gassed it it did a funny lurch and i carried on (i suspect the lurch was something breaking) come up to next island no clutch could not pull the lever it was probably ratytling like a good un but i had my music pretty loud Confused

so i try to downshift with out the clutch (which i'm crap at) as i slow down it lurches a bit and then locks up the rear wheel and engine dies...

i had to rock bike to get it into nuetral to push it off the road.

i imagine been alloy it only take one of the bolts to come loose to start wreaking havoc and if you don;t notice till it's too late...

maybe a spring broke releasing the pressure on a bolt and it came out ?

the 5 posts where the pressure plate bolts go are all sheered off !

oh yeah... the thrust bearing was fine Very Happy

Hi

Certainly made a mess.

Reason I asked about the thrust bearing is that they seem to have issues on the Divvy (the Haynes says to lube with engine oil when replacing it, think the Yamaha manual says moly grease). When this went on my one the first sign was the gear change getting nasty followed by the rear wheel dragging hard when the clutch was pulled (running the bike on the centre stand and in gear, pulling the clutch resulted in the wheel stopping within one turn).

Take the sump off and get the rest of the rubbish out.

All the best

Keith

It's already off..was a fair bit of crap in there including the rest of the bigger bits i couldn't account for, the whole clutch it off at the moment, had the oil pump out and cleaned, cleaned the pickup strainer and cleaned out where the clutch should go...

i've got another engine partially in bits already that i can nick the clutch out of... supposed to be going to cornwall (from notts) next week Confused

engine turns with a spanner feels ok on the crank, and no funny noises. so hopefully not to much damage done, gonna get some cheap oil and a couple of filters run the cheap oil throught it for a few miles and then drain it, if it look ok i'll put some ok oil in and a new filter.... wonder if the bike shops have people asking for 2 filters often ???

I often buy two or three filters together - because I get the oil for free Very Happy

If you're going to flush that engine through with a couple of oil changes then I'd suggest getting stuck in there with a jetwash and really giving it a good clean inside. Water doesn't damage steel or ally so long as you get rid of it, and it will emulsify with the oil and be carried away in the oil change. Better than bits in the engine.
