After this crash I'm considering down sizing to something a bit smaller (being convinced by other members). Heck I personally don't believe there was much I could of done to change the result of going down. Before anyone starts I am going for a car and will be using the bike less and less.

To be honest there isn't that much damage to my old bike see the images below, but I think it may be time to change bikes. This bike went according to the ambulance crew and people that were there at the time 200ft. Bad images as I was on crutches at the time and had to have a friend take photos for me.

Hopefully this thread can give me an idea of what I'm possibly looking at, convincing me of getting rid.

Now here is what I'm after;

Want;

*Capable of doing motorway miles and a safe 70mph.

*Comfortable to ride, I often do 300 mile+ days so something that
can handle that without being a bone shaker or too painful on my hip.

*Upright or relaxed seating position

*shaft drive would be a bonus but I doubt I'll be able get it.

Dont want;

*Over 90bhp

*Sports bike or scooter.

*Cb,er,gs 500 (tried one too uncomfortable for lonnger distances).

*SV650/street triple etc. Don't like them have tried the sv didn't get along with it.

Why? Speed is down to you, not the bike, and road conditions are unrelated to either.

Whatever you get will be easily capable of potatoing you if you ride it on full throttle, or if you hit diesel / gravel / a crisp packet.

Your current bike ticks all your boxes, right? So why change it?

Dullsville ...

But unless you ride the current bike at full throttle, I'm unsure why you want to restrict yourself to a lower potential top speed.

Was just going to suggest the same. Lowish power. Upright. Shaft drive.

You Do what you wanna do!

For my pennies worth, I say that you have a good bike there and it is worth saving.
You`re not dead so learn from it and be a bit more careful on your travels Thumbs Up

20/30mph off on a 250 or 125 is still going hurt just as much as a 20/30mph off on a 600 or 750.
Surely the thing to do is treat ALL junctions with the suspicion of having diesel spillage on it, I do.

Keep the faith Mr Smiler Thumbs Up

It does do everything I want it's people getting me think if it's too big or weighty, old and a barge. Although they are nice to ride.

It's also making me think is it worth the repair if it's not just cosmetical and it's engine is damaged.

Well I'm not sure if I'm being biased I do like it. But the k100 is the second big bike I've owned replaced after my first one got stolen. It was the first big bike I purchased myself and did a large repair on.

My previous k100rs had the clutch go due to me riding the way I was taught. I was tethering the clutch whilst slow riding and filtering. Ended up replacing it myself which meant stripping off the whole rear end of the bike. And putting back together.

As apposed to what, riding the rear brake?

Also don't see how having a heavy bike would contribute to a crash like yours. At low speed yes, or if you overcooked it into a corner, if anything heavier bikes are more stable.

I would recommenced a CBF1000 for large mileage/touring but they're not that much lighter (240kg iirc).

To be honest that's what I think could of caused it. K100 is a dry clutch. Not passing it off but ended up killing the clutches in two bikes this is my third and the clutch has no problems.

I think they are convincing me because I'm trying think if there is a way around what happened.

And who are you?

What would you consider 'not boring'?

I like my bike!

If you have found a bike that ticks the boxes and you like stick with it or it's type. Notice those who say you should have this or that bike either change their bikes often or have a real shitter.

I was actually going to say GT550..

NTV? TDM? Any one of those 600cc inline fours that all seem good at everything, and super reliable? Oh oh K75!

K100s are not nice to ride, what are you comparing it to? Their main redeeming feature is they were designed by Europeans for Europeans, so they're comfortable. That's about the kindest thing I think of about mine..
