Bit of advice - Honda CG

Hi,

Just seen an ad for a 1990 Honda CG for £600. I have got him down to £475, but just wondering if that's around the right price?!

I know they are workhorses, just wanna make sure I'm not paying over the odds?!

Seems about right for the Brazil models.
In my experience prices seem to level out at around £500 so the price(s) quoted seem about right.

It'll have been around a while so don't expect mint. Check for rust under seat, rear mudguard and the battery box. Make sure suspension ok. Don't see any gaitors on forks so should be able to see if any leaks. Fitting gaitors will keep fork seals ok for longer. Basic servicing is easy and straightforward so should be no hassles. If can ride check for (a) sloppy box/false neutrals and (b) you can get neutral (and neutral light works). Kickstart can also get a little 'floppy' with wear (care if replacing as splines vary for model years).

Should still have some life left in it for a 20 year old bike. Engine is usually bulletproof, OK for the 100kph needed for the test (which is why they hold their value). Being older bike does knock some off the insurance too (but watch the excess charge). IMO it's the electrics that let go first. Had to recently get regulator/rectifier and magneto plate on a 1985 model, now sorted ok.

I am just hoping it will be better than my Sanya, I binned it after some clown stopped right in front of me and the ride never felt the same since - was light and wobbly.

Just wanting to make sure the price was right, just needs to see me through until Jan when I can buy a sports style 125.

I checked insurance and it's something like 60% cheaper than what I would be paying on the Sanya!

Sounds about right that, I would let mine go for £500 at a push as-is but with the re-furbed engine/box I'm slowly building it would have to be around or over £700 with a choice of 125 or 150cc

Five to seven hundred quids worth of bike depending on how much ticket it has left and the general condition.

Don't expect to get a working bike for less than five hundred and you wont be disappointed.
