Looking to get a 125 dirt/s'moto bike to use over winter, due to the main transport distance of around 10miles that I'll need to go I don't need anything more than a 125.

I was looking at something similar to a 1990 dt125, but I wondered what the good people of BCF thought on the matter. I wanted a dirt-style bike for over the winter, something with knobblies on so I can have a bit of fun and try find a few lanes near to where I live (if I can), but I would like to spend as little as possible. Then, possibly put some supermoto wheels/tyres on it for the summer months, as my brother is looking to do his CBT and wanted a bike to use, and I may be able to sell it him for a profit.

So, anyone have any advice/suggestions?

I had an XR125, not the fastest of bikes in the world, but suited me fine for a few months last year. Was good for around 60mph and 95mpg. Coped well in the snow too. Stupidly reliable requiring no maintenance, just like a CG that it's based on.

Why a 125? I wouldn't bother if it's just for the sake of possibly selling it to your brother, personally.
You're paying more to get less often - and 10 miles can still be done more comfortably on a bigger bike, never mind the easier riding off-road.

Not many bikes that it's a straight swap for Supermoto wheels, so expect some bodging for most if you're looking at cheap as your basis.

On that, I wouldn't look for a specific model, just see what's good value for a decent nick bike around you.
