Any ideas? I've removed all visible bolts but the bugger still won't come off!

It's held on magnetically. Take off any small covers from it and try to get a grip on it before pulling it off. It might also be partially stuck on by the gasket. Have a look around for something you could stick a wedge into without damaging the gasket surfaces.

It's off by about 3mm all the way round, and i can't get it any further - even with a big wedge under it.

Do i need to take off the worm drive for the tacho?

Yeah worm drive will have to come off. Then if you look underneath towards the front of the engine there will be sort of a protruding triangle of alloy casting. This is where you can clobber in with a hide hammer to get the casing off.

There is a bearing in the LH casing which is quite tight on the end of the crank, hence the hammering once the worm gear and all the bolts are removed.

Whats the prob anyways? Broken kickstart return?
