Recommend a Disc Lock?

I got my bike chain today and my first thought is ''F**k carrying that thing everywhere'' (Almax III 1.5m with a squire lock and ground anchor) work's car park is covered by CCTV anyway and there's always somebody about from 3:30am to well past midnight so I need something more portable but don't know what's good and bad.


Any thoughts?

...and 2m of Hi Viz rope from B&Q to tie round the bike lock and round your handlebars to stop you coming back and driving off for around 750mm before your front disk explodes!!!!

I use the Xena XN15 alarmed disc lock, very durable, and great alarm. Also means you can't forget it, as when you stand bike up with it on, the alarm will go off

I have a great big Squire one, a bit like a D-lock. It looks nice and solid and it gets used as a deterrent in town but is certainly not my main security measure at home

I'm a big fan of my Abus Granit disc/chain lock (sorry don't know the exact model # but it's like the picture below). On it's own great as a disc lock or can be used with a chain (the V shape just about takes 2 big end links). I'd happily recommend it. Not cheap though, although I suspect it's worth it. Have a google, I'm sure you can find a good price.

Only problem I've found is some difficulty getting the U shackle bit in some discs as it's fairly long so maybe worth checking first.

I have the Kryptonite EV-XL lock at home which was fantastic for peace of mind with the GPZ...

Unfortunately the disks on the Bandit are slightly larger diameter, so it doesn't fit the new bike

It took a fair few wallops but still works. The alarm was what woke us up. All our bikes use xena.

Disc was bent, but I still have the bike.

-1 for Xena disc locks.

I had an XR1 and it KEPT going off in the wind. I could silence it pretty easily by putting my hand on it or just covering it with foam (or microfibre!) Useless! The watch batteries wouldn't last 1 month in the winter and sometimes the sensors wouldn't activate.

I'd look for a disk lock with a forged body. I've had my motrax vishas for 4 years now and still use it today. Hefty lump but pretty solid. I could at least use it as a weapon!

Very good so far. But no one tried to nick it.

I used to use a disc lock, but if its parked at home, a disc lock isnt enough, I'd prefer to chain it to something solid, and if its parked up somewhere, its about as easy to put it into a van with or without a disc lock.

Yeah the Disc lock is for out and about more than anything, as in the first post I have a ALMAX chain, squire lock and ground anchor at home inside a locked garage and my bedroom is above the garage

At work it will be parked in view of the CCTV and there's usually someone about.

The main use for it is something portable for when I go out and about on it and have to leave it for a bit


Note, this is for the SV650 not the CG, the CG has drums on both ends but I suppose the boss could go through the sprocket.

Im looking around for an alarmed disc lock too. Same uses, out and about and at school. £30-£40 mark im looking at. The Xena XR1 seems okay. Any thoughts?

I take it from comments abouve you guys suggest getting one of those things that connect to your bars so you dont ride off with it on then?

If not the XR1, can you recommend any others around the same price, preferably alarmed?

I use a Squire one, the ML2L.

Can't say much about it as don't need to use it much but it seems solid and I just keep it under my seat.

Got a good security rating as well. And the best thing is I got mine for a tenner on eBay brand new rather than £45 because some numpty spelt it wrong!

Just had a look on Ebay for the Squire ML2L, there was one on there for £15, damaged packaging old stock but still sealed with everything included... MINE

No alarm on it but never mind, might get an alarm fitted to the bike at a later date.

Man up and take the almax with you. I used to carry my almax series 3 1.5m and squire padlock everywhere on my cg125 and do the same on the zzr600.
