Really don't know what's wrong with my bike; sometimes it's fine and other times it's a big problem.

Every now and then when I start the bike and put it into 1st, it jumps forward a bit and then stalls (baring in mind this is when the clutch was fully in).

Also after this happens and sometimes when I'm driving normally, the gear lever gets stuck in second - a real pain when you've stopped at traffic lights! So far I've been able to reduce the amount of times this happens by slowing down using the gears and getting into 1st before I stop. However, if I need to do an emergency stop for whatever reason - it's not fun to be stuck on the side of the road rocking the bike back and forth trying to get it out of 2nd (obviously after many attempts with the lever).

Story over. I'm not really sure what it is - I first thought it would be that the clutch isn't properly disconnecting itself from the flywheel however the bike's clutch pulls very late on the lever. This leads me to believe that the clutch springs may be gone :s

Any thoughts/help will be much appreciated! Cheers.

have you adjusted the clutch cable lately? Its probably too loose and needs adjusting so its pulling the plates apart properly. At the mo its seems to have got slack with lots of clutch lever freeplay

Not recently, no - That will be the first thing I check when the weather clears up a bit - Cheers! However I did check the clutch and there is no play in the cable whatsoever.

At the moment my clutch is basically an 'on/off' switch and only bites when I let the clutch out basically the whole way.

is the clutch cable smooth to operate? Also check your crankcase/gear box oil is on the correct level. Its sounds as if the plates are sticking but then you say it doesnt bite unless you let the lever out almost completely to the end

Sounds like you might need new clutch plates?

I'll do the oil to see how much of a difference it makes but I agree - I reckon the clutch is knackered.

Well the engine and I THINK gearbox was replaced by my uncle and since then it's done about 5000(?) miles. Not entirely sure though.

I shall consult the Haynes manual regarding the amount of slack that is needed.

What I don't get it, is that when you say you go into gear with lever depressed it jumps, then you say it doesn't bite till the end of travel - weird one this is.

Agree with above, there should be some free lever movement on the clutch.

Sometime i find just taking the clutch apart and re-installing it helps. Had it only been recently doing this? Whats the history on the bike? Laid up? daily use? etc
