Trying to find a good quality and good size memory card for my digital camera. Needs to be quite big it's going to be used for two months in Sri lanka with the pics being uploaded to a computer from time to time. I know nowt about cameras or cards and remember my mate buying some cheap SD cards on ebay just to find out they were fakes and crap.

So BCF massive can you point me in the right direction, Karma for the winner. Danke.

Karma Thumbs Up

What type of card does your camera take?
Is it an SD like your mates?

Usual places i go are:
Play
Dabs
Amazon
SVP

Watch out for which class they range from 0 to 10 last time i looked.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital

its transfer speed 10 being the quickest some decent SLRs will suffer lag when taking multiple shots with low class cards.

If you have a point and click doest matter so much.

Ian

EDIT:
16Gb Class 10
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sandisk-Extreme-30MBS-Secure-Digital/dp/B001ENL5RY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1287082302&sr=8-1-catcorr

16Gb Class 2
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sandisk-16GB-SDHC-Memory-Card/dp/B00422F8XQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1287082356&sr=1-2

Not a bad difference!

Also check the max capacity your camera will take nothing worse than buying a nice big card and finding your camera can't use it Embarassed

I bought mine whilst in India...for pence, and its a SanDisk and holds oodles of pictures. Thumbs Up

I often find that such things are cheaper to buy overseas than here.

Buy several smaller ones and put them somewhere safe when they're full.

Then when some sticky fingered Sri-Lankan dude does a two-up C90 ride-by snatch and grab and has it away with your camera, you don't loose all your photos too.

EDIT: Have a look on cpc.farnell.com. Make sure you check the "publications" section. Bit of a pain flipping through the ebooks but that's where the bargains are to be had.

I had to do this with my 10mp Canon Exilim... I then bought a branded 4Gb Sandisk memory card which turns out to be more than adequate for my needs.

The camera has been to a number of family and sporting events, as well as a two week break to Spain, with no issues.

Obviously a higher resolution will take up more storage space, but I've had no problems storing a mixture of 100's of 3mp, 5mp and 10mp pics Thumbs Up
