Hey there,
so following on from my previous post, i have some 35w lights coming for the NSR and i am wanting to know if it would be much trouble to re-wrap the altenator coils with an extra wrap to help keep the juice flowing (i have a spare engine which i can use for this).
The main concerns from this though are:
- Is this likely to blow the regulator/other components between the altenator/battery?
- Is this likely to fry the wiring anywhere inbetween?
Are these bulbs (halogen) likely to drain the battery to heavily without using the full beam? I'm thinking if i just drop down to one light when i'm going under street lights (there are routs i can take that will let me do this for much of the journey ).
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Best regards

I'm pretty sure on NSRs the lights are 35w standard anyway, so it shouldn't make any difference. Rewiring the alternator is possible but certainly not an easy task. You'll need to use the same gauge wire and number of turns or you'll change the flux, and even then I doubt it would make the alternator any better. You could modify the alternator for more power, but you'll need to do the equations to determine the change in current and voltage outputs across the rpm range, which is a fair bit of effort too. Then you'll probably need to upgrade the rectifier/regulator, but if you're going to the above lengths you should probably be able to make your own regulator/rectifier anyway. |

Hah!
I guess you just blew my theory out of the window there then lol...
Yeah, i figure i must have under estimated the complexity in such an operation, i can always just top up the battery after using it at night i guess...
As I'm looking for something to tinker with but dont have vast amounts of time to dedicate and or much to spend on materials
Thankyou for the insight though and i may no doubt one day get round to trying something such as this, just not today i dont think heh.
Best regards
