Hi,

I have a 1992 Honda NSR 125, alcast frame, serial number starting with "HI-JC20".

I checked the exhaust for restrictions, but didn't find any, also checked the intake plate, nothing there either.

The bike only seems to hit 75 mph, with a pretty slow 0-60.

Any ideas on what's wrong with this bike?

+1

From what you've written in your post this sounds entirely normal to me.

Wrong.

My ns125r is the older version of this bike, basically the engine is about 10hp LESS than his nsr model, yet mine will get to 85mph. Wink

Start with the exhaust, decoke it.
Check the air intake, make sure there's no blockages. It's even possible the rings are worn? Not entirely sure to be honest.

check :
1) the compression (less than 125 PSI is bad and in this case a top end repair is necessary)
2) check your valves sequence of working (download my file https://www.geneva-racing.ch/~alains/NSRtips.doc
if your servo-motor doesnt move write me , i will guide you to investigate the bug

Haven't checked the compression yet, but i doubt there's anything wrong with it because it had a top end repair 4 years ago, and it has only gone about 500 km since that.

Checked the valves, they close at 2000 rpm, and opens at about 7000 rpm.

Also, the exhaust is completely clean.

The mileage is about 45 000 km, and the bike had a top end rebuild 4 years ago, but it's barely been ridden since, somewhere between 500 and 1000km.

if you want to keep it more than one year , you should re-buid top-end which is around £220 . if not do nothing because the investment dont worth the benefit

Would i get any significant performance gains if i get i rebuilt?

The way it runs now is like its restricted, even though its not.
My cdi is a CI 589 C, and the rc controller is tv-78.

i see !!!! your CDI is a french bull shit
find a CI572 but still , for my point of view, needs something to do in the top-end
just had a look on ebay and no luck , but in uk i know some breakers work together , find the site and ask (no more than £35)

Is it possible to cut a "bridge" on the ci589, like on the ci639?
Also the bike revs fine all the way up to 12000 rpm, so what would the ci572 do different?

So i should change the cdi for a ci572, and change piston rings? or a top end rebuild?
