Need a quick one answered.

How the fuck does numbering on flats work?

Say you're standing outside the flat looking directly at the front of the block from the street. You're interested in the flat at the left side, what is this flat "Right" or "Left"? If you go in the main door and go up the stair you look at the two doors of neighbouring flats. You are now facing out toward the front of the building again. The flat that was on the left from the outside's door is now at your right.

I'm all confused.. right or left? (I do know my right from my left but I don't know how they operate the right and left from what perspective, out or in or what>?!)

Left as you look at it from the street?

I've got one letter that says "1 UR 26 Blah Street", not sure if that means "right" or what.. kind of throwing me.. every other letter says "26 blah street". Just moved in and not seen anybody and all my docs just say "26 blah street".

It's to activate my phone line and BT website says "1R" needs activating which would be ok but the flat next door isn't occupied at the moment so that doesn't makes things easier.

Surely they can activate it just from the number of the flat?

If you live there and you don't know the proper address then spare a thought for the poor guys who have to try delivering items to flats.

This is a weird one.

We tried to rent a flat from an Irish person, they used the Irish way of doing flat stuff and never thought it would matter in Scotland. There we were standing out side 3/14 when we should have been at 14/3.

Normally flats are numbered, they don't have the R of L thing going on.

Neutral

Edit* You might want to check on the electoral register, BT run of that usually. Find out the name of lived there previously and do a search at your local library or PO, they normally carry lists.

It would be quite funny, and ironic, if you failed to pay your rent, piled up loads of debt and got stuffed with loads of CCJ's and the bank downstairs got blacklisted for credit Razz

Not a bad idea broon Thumbs Up

Phoned BT up today and this flat has 3 bloody lines. Got it all sorted out but as to the address I'm still none the wiser as they've got it down at 26A only.

Don't want to blacklist the bank lol, it's my bank... can't hide from the manager now. Laughing
