Hi, i've got a house buying question and was wondering if somebody on here could help.

I know it's one of those 'how long is a bit of string' questions but i was wondering how long it 'usually' takes for the buyers solicitors to receive a draft contract from the vendors solicitors? Again i know this is impossible to give a definite answer on but i'm just wondering how long it would normally take.

There is no chain either end. An offer was made and accepted 22 days ago.

Maybe i need to have a bit of patience but 22 days without getting any paperwork from the vendors solicitors seems a bit much to me.

Thanks

Ours took around 3 weeks, no chain.

We used an independant solicitor so a few 'chasing up' phone calls did wonders.

Our solicitors have harassed both the vendors solicitor and the estate agents a couple of times but so far we still haven't had the drafts.

I've called the estate agents a couple of times myself and they said they've chased things up but still nothing.

Is it worth me continuing to ring them or should i just wait it out?

Keep ringing. Estate agents are appalling in exerting pressure in our experience, even though their commission depends on it.

Do you know what sort of situation the vendors are in and what reason they have for selling as this could affect what instructions they're giving their solicitor? If it's a break up, could be relatively quick (like our recent purchase) or possibly if they haven't got somewhere to go to, they may be telling their solicitor not to rush overly.

Presumably all the searches have been done? In all honesty, we weren't all that worried about getting the draft contracts, more about ensuring that nothing odd was thrown up in the searches (like having a water-meter fitted on moving in Thumbs Down ). Our solicitor was extremely proactive in obtaining/chasing the necessary information as well as keeping us informed. Pays to go with a personal recommendation rather than a cheapo conveyancing service imo.
