Hello, Anybody lived in the algarve? I'm thinking of taking my tent and bike to the algarve for the winter, don't have much cash but would chance my arm and look for expats and try for possible work. Is any body going to portugal this winter?

If anyone has contacts or help/advice would be very much appreciated.

Loads of ex pats out there.

Decent cheap site to pitch tent, here >>

https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Arma%C3%A7%C3%A3o+de+P%C3%AAra,+Silves,+Portugal&sll=37.079011,-8.404884&sspn=0.130926,0.308647&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Arma%C3%A7%C3%A3o+de+P%C3%AAra,+Silves+Municipality,+Faro,+Portugal&ll=37.120171,-8.350328&spn=0.002045,0.004823&t=h&z=18

I used it couple of times, love the ride out to algarve, take 3days/nights usually and find a hotel the 2nd night to have a good kip.

Pera has a decent cafe on the front. Pedro's for beer and a snack type thing.
Gordini's in albufiera for proper meal type stuff, i avoid albufiera weekends as it's full of brits full of booze out to give the rest of us a bad name.

Should find some kind of work although don't imagine pay would be overly good out there.

When you thinking of going?

On the face of it. It sounds like a good idea. But what can you do? As job's are not thick on the ground. And the winter is the time when most summer jobs have laid people off. So they in turn are looking for work. I would take enough money to cover you for a set time. And then think about coming back if it goes tits up.

Just got back from albuferia this afternoon, via sleezy jet. Very Happy
1 bedroom apt cost us £22 per night, & we could have had a studio for 10 days @ £98

Seriously though, if your considering camping on an "international" campsite down on the algarve. The 2 I know of, and have used are at quarteria, & olhao. these charge by the person + the bike + the tent ... per night so you soon start racking up the costs. 3 days cost us 50 euro last summer (1 tent, 2 bikes, 2 persons)

I did notice theres a campsite of unknown status at loule.

However I`d also consider checking out the hotels down there, as a "studio" apartment with bathroom, kitchen & proper bed, pool, sun lounger etc. Long term lets could be had for around £40-£50 p/week depending upon what your wanting.
Check out hotels.com, tripadvisor etc for independant pricing of hotels

Edit: I don`t know if any of the main campsites in the Algarve will be open during the "winter" season
