I just had my local dyno shop stick my bike on the dyno for 3 hours and install my pc3 and make a custom map. The bike was running a bit rich because of the gp style short can i have on, now the map has been done i have taken the bike out and it feels slower then it was before. it goes well dont get me wrong but it dont give me that hard pulling grin factor as much as it did before i had the custom map. thought maybe it was just that day making me feel like that so i took it out the next day and seems the same, i then met up with my mate as we both have zx6r 03's with exactly the same exhaust altho he dont have a pc3 and we were allways both very very even and neck and neck in a stright line, now i had my pc3 fitted and mapped he pulls away from me slightly.

what does everyone recon to this? should i remove the pc3 and custom map?

Does this happen at all parts of the rev range?

I mean has the tuner given you less low down grunt but made you extra power at the top end that perhaps you wouldnt use regularly or haven't noticed yet? Or even the opposite? Where by he has installed a map to give a little extra low down grunt with a small top end sacrifice?

Its also possible it now just simply feels smoother? perhaps without the new map you were bogging low down, so when you got out of that part of the rev range all the power would come in at once? Giving you the impression of crazy power?

The fact your mate edges in front could just be the way you are used to riding your bike with the previous fueling setup, and you just need to adapt the rev range you ride in?

Or! the tuner was a wanker and you need to go back and kick him in the nuts and do it again properly

Hope that rabble helps mate Thumbs Up

i think a prudent question whould be what did the dyno results say? did he give you those? did you veiw the improvement to justify the cost?

that would give you and us a better idea of whats gone on

There are a lot of dyno operators out there that haven't really got a clue what they are doing.

Also certain engines have little quirks like they might need to be run overly rich/lean in part of the rev range to overcome a design flaw. That sort of knowledge only comes with experience.

So it is possible that it has been made worse even if the printout says it has improved.

cheers for the replys, it could be that it feels smoother i duno maybe more testing is required, the results on the dyno were 111.4bhp before the custom map and 111.39bhp after, i was there when he did the work he kept running it up then adjusting laptop then running it on dyno again kept doing it over and over, he said no increase in bhp as it was allready fueling good up top so only minor tweaks high up in the revs but he said the low and mid were off and pulled in, havent got a print out of the before run only the after run. Will get out on it some more and see how it feels then

so youve payed for a custom map and a couple of hours of dyno time.

and your bike now has less power.

Peak power is only part of the story.

I have a PC3 in my TDM not for POwer but to smooth the rev range out which it does very well.

To be honest mate, if he spent 3 hours on the dyno for only small gains on a road bike then you have been shafted Thumbs Down It should have only taken a few runs to see what it was fueling like. Was he dicking around just get your money off you or did you agree a price before he started?
