Speedfight 50 starting problems

Hi all, I am having problems getting my speedfight 50 goin, it turns over with good compression and i have got a spark, plug is also wet when i remove it so petrol is getting thru. Can anyone give me other things to check? I havent tried a new spark plug yet altho i have tried a different spark plug but was an B8es. it sounds like it wants to fire up and smoke comes out of exhaust but it just wont go

tried checking teh imobiliser?

speedfights are a bitch for the immobilisers failing and not letting you start it (first hand experiance)

look at the imobiliser light when you turn the key it should flash twice then go out and not re light till you turn the ignition off if it carys on flashing or stays solid then you need a new CDI about 180 squids for the OEM one iirc

check the carb take it off clean it also get some off this

also try throwing soame fresh petrol in there speedfights can be fussy little bastards when they want to be

the battery is brand new on today fully charged definitely not that, I will be getting a new plug but the b8es was brand new and that didn't help so cant see it being that. As for the imoboliser am not too up on these but would I get a spark if this was at fault? carb has also been cleaned out earlier but will try some fresh petrol with the new plug, thanks

well I tried some fresh petrol but to no avail, also the immobiliser seems fine, light comes on, goes off, then flashes twice and stays off. what compression should it be kicking out as its reading at 130psi, which doesn't seem low.

so you've got good compression and maybe a ok spark,what colour was the spark ?


you tryed it with the air filter off ?

yeah tried it with the air filter off spark looks blue but not 100% sure if its a good spark might get a new coil and try that. something else i discovered is the spark plug is a speedfight 100cc and upon further inspection the barrel is 100cm with 50.5mm piston. would a 100cc barrel fit a speedfight 50 or would a 100cc engine fit a speedfight 50? just wondering what coil to get 50cc or 100cc or are they the same?

speedfghts are pretty universal moast of the parts are interchangeable inc engines ect

hmm i don't get it,blue spark is usually good

you have good compression and fuel,no other reason why it won't start

how come it came to be like this,has it just started doing this ?

Thats how I bought it, just been reading somewhere that if the fuel tap is faulty this can cause the engine to flood but not sure how to check it, its some kind of vacuum tap? anyone know how to check the functionality of this part?

well when the engines on, it sucks the petrol out of the tank via a vacuum,but when the engines off theres no vacuum so the fuel stays in the tank

but if you put petrol down the plug hole and it didn't fire than it would be something else

the bottom pipe on the pump is dry but when I disconnect the upper pipe petrol comes from the tap, does that mean its ok?

the dry one could be a breather pipe,you tryed switching it on with the fuel cap open ?

the only time I touched the fuel cap was when I put fresh petrol in earlier but then it was refitted straight away. I've ordered a coil anyway so see if that helps

if the tank breather was blocked wouldn't that cause fuel starvation? there's plenty of fuel getting thru i no that for sure

I think it must be a weak spark but the coil is not at fault so I need to find out what else could cause this?

Bare in mind that with a 2t, if the plug gets oiled up its NOT gonna start. Mixture could be too rich, which fouls the plug with oil before it can get a chance to fire. I've had this before with a 2t ped.

if you have a speedfight with an immobiliser you should always use a Resistor type spark plug as in BR8ES as the radio waves transmitted by an non resistor plug can damage the CDi, frying the programming so it fires at the wrong point, also getting the cdi connector plug wet can affect the spark timing, as does putting the battery on the wrong way or shorting it out
