Views on an Aprilia Rs50 ?

Hey everybody, just wondering on what people's views are on the Aprilia RS50 ?

I'm thinking about selling my moped for one of these so I can learn gears etc. for when i hopefully will do my A2 test next year. I'm just concerned about the reliability of these things because I have been researching and seen that it can have alot of problems.

So do any of you have past experiences of using these bikes on how they perform, handle, reliability etc.

Could be a bit Hit & Miss really!

Depending on it's mileage, how much it's been ragged of it's tits and topped up with oil.

Maintain it and you could be fine - they are great fun but perhaps cheaper geared 2 strokes are out there?

Yeah I have been hearing they can be ragged by some of the ped boi's Rolling Eyes

Are there any other 50cc's bikes out there with the same sort of styling as the rs50 which isnt Chinese ?

Suzuki TS50x FTW! Thumbs Up

The RS50 are quite good although expensive for what they are. Use a good oil in them & you'll have no problems from the minarelli engine. Thumbs Up

i had a rs50 ;D

great fun,but if your getting one you'l probably have to do a topend rebuild,but the bonus of this is that you learn how the bike works

theres loads of other 50's around that are the same as the rs

they all do one if you look for them,they all have the same 2 stroke engine though,the mineralli am6

but its all good fun Razz

I'm kinda liking the Derbi Gpr but kinda expensive. I wouldn't mind getting a Supermoto of some sort but I have and always will love the look of sport bikes.

^ Carvel how do you find that bike in general ? Like Cost, Fuel Consumption, Reliability etc.

most are ex-raggabouts, stay off the RS's and you'll be fine unless you know the owner/s from new and know how it's been treated otherwise you'll end up paying more after you bought the bike.

im guessing your 16, so why not wait until you hit 17 and buy a geared 125? If your really set in hopping to a geared 50cc, then best bet would be for a supermoto style even though you still need to be abit careful in what kinda rider your buying it from Thumbs Up

This doesn't look the sexiest of them all but at the end of the day will be about the same perfomance wise and you'll get it cheap as chips!

Hi

How long until you are 17? If not that long then just save your money.

However the RS50 isn't too bad. Just expect any 2nd hand ones to be thrashed and crashed. For most owners they are the first bike and what they learn on (including learning how to crash).

I would say that the engine spares are cheap and being fairly simple (ie, no power valve, etc) it should be easy to work on.
