as mentioned a lot is personal perception. its never as bad as you think.
i always think this after a heavy core session.. stomach muscles puff up, pushes my belly out and i somehow think i've turned into the goodyear blimp. in reality its nothing like that, its just how it appears to me looking down.
whats your diet like? thing id recommend is cutting down on carbs, plenty of fibre and eating less more often to keep your metabalism up.
doesnt really matter 'what' you're eating as long as you're eating sensibility.. ie. dont skip breakfast and go and eat 5 doughnuts for lunch or whatever
regarding your exercice routine id like to suggest a slight change to help you maximise your fat burning.
the problem with doing lots of cardio straight off the bat is it'll sap your body of its initial energy so when you come to do weights you wont be able to do as much for as many reps. the way your body handles this differs from cardio to weight, so if you warm up, do your weights, THEN do the cardio activity you'll find you can do a lot more weights and still happily do all your cardio with the added bonus as you've gotten rid of your initial energy during weights, now you're doing cardio its really starting to burn the fat
so my suggestion would be, 10mins/2k+m on rowing machine or exercise bike (i hate the bike so choose rowing machine) then do your weights and then move onto the cross trainer + treadmill + swim.
its also a good idea to swap it around every few days/other week so your body doesnt get used to the routine. swap the cross trainer with the rowing machine and the like. keeps it fresh too.
my usual routine is as follows:
rowing machine, core work (plank, extended situps on exercise ball), then dumbbell lifts on the ball, high weight burnout, bit more core work, then onto my legs for a bit, various machines, back to arms, various machines and another burnout. i then go on the crosstrainer for some cardio and finally go have a swim if i fancy it (tbf most of the time i just go jump in the sauna )
the above without the swim is roughly an hour. more if i feel like doing more cardio etc.. suits me fine, i can go down after work, do my workout then get home and get me dinner without it being too late
seems to work for me, just find what works for you and stick to you. you'll see results sometimes the belly can be the hardest place to get rid ____________________ CBR954RR - Daily toy

I hit the gym around 12 months ago and weighed in at 13 1/2 stone. Since then I've managed to get down to 11 and have drastically sorted out my diet and life style.
Over those 12 months I didn't hit the gym 24/7 in fact at one stage I went 6 weeks without entering there only going for the occasional swim.
However I have been back there for a good couple of months now and despite muscle increase I see fuck all in the way of changes on my albeit small belly.
What the hell is going on? Is it paranoia? I feel fatter now than I did when I was a man-walrus-pig and I'm lighter and more physically fit than most of my mates.
I've reached and exceeded my target weight. I've gone from large to tight fitting medium, sometimes even small clothes. My waist has gone down 3 inches so whats the deal? WHY does this belly never disappear?
My gym routine: 25 min cross trainer, 25 min treadmill (quick pace up a steep inclines. I can't run as I have awful knees). Various weight machines, including ab,bicep, tricep, chest and shoulder workouts. All followed by a 20 min swim. This is done 3-4 times a week. |
It is so ironic that you shoulld post this topic right now as I was thinking about posting a similar one.
I also have similar problems to you - well I say problems, but personally I dont have a problem with being fat as such. I dont want to look like a model or anything. I am around 90KG - over 14 stone.
However, I have been going to the gym for the passed 2 months - non-stop. I go 6 days a week and do 1 hour every night I go. All I do is run!!! (I did a little bit of swimming and cycling at the start but prefer running).
The only reason I went to the gym was because I was getting pains in my chest whenever I broke into a jog - and on the first night I went I couldn't even run 0.01miles !!!! Before having to stop due to chest pains.
I can see a major improvement in my fitness. I am now running 7 miles a day with no breaks - around 1 hour solid running. And I plan to do more and more (so if you had posted this thread in a couple of weeks time I will have a higher number than '7'). I am not out of breath anymore and find it very easy to do more distance and speed (just doing want to speed hours in the gym).
Despite doing this, my body shape (fat) has stayed the same. I dont look any different at all. I went down to 85KG a couple of weeks ago (I had probably just done a big shite before going on the scales), but I am now back up to 90-92ish.
Anyway, going to the gym has really been a drastic change for me and I urge anyone to try it and see if they enjoy it - I never thought I would but it is excellent.
And in addition to this, we have just had a massive new sports complex built up where I live. The gym in it is massive and you can get in with the card you use to get into the other gym.
For more details, see the Scottish Section of the site - it is under 'Ravenscraig Sports Facility'. |

I've mentioned it here before, Jon B has as well but try
www.britmilfit.com
if there's one near you. Really knackering, plus they force you to work out the whole body meaning you can't avoid doing the bits you don't like.
Having said that, I'm a fat git and have only just started going again after five months off but when I did go I saw big improvements in my fitness. |

An often quoted saying
"Abs are made in the kitchen, not in the gym".
I'll save myself from writing out a long-winded explanation of things I have come to understand by simply posting this link.

Read it, do your homework, figure it out, do it.
