Hi,

I recently bought a scooter, which im going to lend to my mum because here car is fucked.

I picked up the bike on the 27th december, and filled in the logbook.
Just come to tax it online, and it says the disc will be sent to the registered keeper. Am i the registered keeper? I havent had the log book through though yet. Just worried it will get sent to the previous owner, or he cashs it in, or SORNS it Confused Can i look online to see if im the keeper?
Ta

It may go to the previous owner if you still don't have log book.

That's why they tell you only to use Online service if you have the V5c and not just the tear off Wink

Get in touch with previous owner and let them know. It will have your scooters Reg on it anyway.

You can tax at Post Office with the tear off slip, and your insurer may be able to email you a cover note.

But no point if you already paid online, hope the buyer is genuine Smile

You need the documents to tax it in the post office, but they will probably arrive before the insurance gets onto the MID to allow it to be taxed online.

Technically even if it is taxed it is still an offence to ride it without displaying the tax disk.

All the best

It's too late now, but you should have gone down the post office.

There's just one form to fill in (D1 I think). Give them that form, the tear-ff bit from the log book that the previous owner gave you, an insurance cover note and your MOT certificate.

Call up the DVLA, if you give them the reg number and ask if you are now the registered keeper they will ask you to confirm your address. They wont tell you who it is registered to if it hasn't been transferred yet (obviously). I did it a couple of weeks ago when the change of ownership letter got lost in the post. The one and only time that they were helpful and managed to answer my question without transferring me elsewhere or fobbing me off!

Im still waiting for a new V5 for the xr, got that on the 22/23rd December I think so don't stress over not getting it yet.

EDIT - if the DVLA says its in your name go ahead and tax it online.
