I sold my 954 on Ebay at the weekend. The auction was won by a guy with a Polish name and he turned up today to collect the bike.

Paperwork done and cash exchanged, he loaded the bike into his van and off it went. He was heading up to Birmingham to pick up another couple of bikes, then straight off to Poland to re-register and sell the lot out there.

He said that him and his mate shift between 6 and 12 bikes a week out to Poland where high demand and the exchange rates get them some big profits.

I wonder what effect this sort of thing is having on the UK used bike market. While it’s probably keeping current prices healthy for sellers it will be interesting to see if lack of availability in the future leads to a general rise in the price of second hand bikes.

i buy bikes straght from the insurece companys these are sold to trade buyers through an online auction
over the last few years i find im being outbid by polish bidders i know there polish as you dont see the other bidders name only the country there bidding from
a 3 year old bike on a cat c 3 years ago may have been £300 ish now would be more like £6-700

no but on aserious note they used to buy cars off me ALOT about a year ago and ship them out there, freelanders especially. for some reason it was cheaper and more proffitable to buy one over here then convert it to left hand drive!!! i think that was when the exchange rate plummeted to like 1.07 gbp to euro.

not seen a polish person in a logn while now though, they used to be everywhere. madness.

i had one chap fly over from warsaw to liverpool airport, got a taxi to bolton! and turned up with cash. he didnt even know if we still had the car. we had put the price up due to a million phone calls but he hadnt seen this, we still managed to get another £200 from him... madness. all that for a freelander, petrol.... in burgundy!

I stuck a Fazer 600 up on Ebay for what I thought was all its money. A Polish guy hit "buy it now" within quarter of an hour. Turned up, peeled 26 fifties off a bundle the size of a house brick, filled in the "permanent export" section of the V5 and bundled it in the back of his van. Job done. The bike was a French import. it's gradually making its way round Europe.

Dealership I used to work at was asked to get hold of 12 CBR600Fs, mainly pretty old ones for a polish guy who turned up with a few vans and sold them over there.

All i gonna say is that they shift those bikes for around twice the price they bought it for, mainly becuase of the demand and because insurance in Poland is so cheap that they can afford to spend more on the bikes.

Big busines that. Someone I knew moved to Australia a few weeks ago, said the cost of a 99 R6 is like $9000 over there, which is £5,600!

I live in Finland, my 2003 Fireblade cost me 5300 euros, and needed another 600 spent on tyres and chain to make it roadworthy, and was considered a good buy over here.
