Hello all. When I had a Bandit 600 back in 2008, I took the tank off to see the condition of the air filter. As I was taking it off, petrol was going all over the place, despite following the manual.

I have just bought another Bandit 600, and I need to check this one as well. I have got the Suzuki service manual this time round.

The procedure is as follows:

Remove seat.
Remove the fuel tank mounting bolts.
Turn the fuel valve knob to the 'ON' position.
Remove the fuel valve know by removing its mounting screw.
Disconnect the vacuum hose, the fuel hose and the fuel tank drain hose.

Is there something I’ve missed or the service manual missing something (apparently, they don’t always include everything or vague)? Don't want fuel all over the place again!

Hi

As above, but the fuel taps can fail and allow fuel to pass all the time.

All the best

Keith

Thanks for the replies chaps! Just took of the vacuum hose and the fuel hose, absolutely nothing came out. As for the fuel tank drain hose, there doesn't seem to be anything there? There is two 'pipes' metal pipes located near the mounting bolts (but on the tanks underside) and there is an electrical wire to the side of them which won't unclip, but no actual tube.

Well I managed to get it off, and the filter is absolutely filthy, almost black and loads debris inside each part. Incidentally, does a dirty air filter increases fuel consumption and put a strain on the engine? Makes me wonder about other things if and when they were last done. The front brake pads were down to the metal and rusted to high heaven!

Also, should a worry that no fuel tank drain hose is present?
