Hi all. Quick question - I'm working on a 1980s bike that's been sat for 20 years (just in case I haven't project-whored enough). Basically, there're a few spots of rust on the frame - nothing serious, it's only really surface corrosion.
What I want to know is what's the best way of 1) getting rid of it, and 2) concealing that it was there. I'm not intending to strip the bike down completely and repaint the frame, at least not in the forseeable future, so some tidy method of concealment is required. Suggestions?

If your not intending to strip the frame then I'd suggest Temac (tractor paint) or simillar. Very tolerant of less than perfect preparation and gives a hard glossy finish.

Cheers. I'll take a look. It's only little spots, so I'm not overly worried about a perfect finish: as long as it's black it'll work.

I used Hammerite satin black on my centre stand just to tidy it up a bit. It has stuck well to the original paint?/powdercoating? and covered the rusty bits perfectly. Prep was a wire brush and a bit of keying with sandpaper.

Not the tidiest job in history but it has lasted for about 6 months so far, has been covered in oil and been hit by stones and still looks the same.
