I am getting my old GPZ back as a project... But..

The girl I sold my GPZ to threw it down the road within the first week of owning it 1.5 years later she has offered it back to me for £150.

The good/reasonable points are that it has:

1997 (P Reg)
Tax until May
2 new tyres
New starter selenoid
Has an Acumen alarm I fitted when I had it
21K miles
Chain and sprocket were replaced

-Really needs a tidy up to be honest, has scratches down one side, and the front headlight fairing might need replacing as the indicator mount has snapped.

-My main worry is the exhaust, it is completely shot but I can't seem to find a replacement that won't cost me £250.

-Could do with a service too and an MOT ofcourse.

Now I don't mind spending that so long as I make it back in the long run.

In your opinion how much will I be able to sell this for once it's finished?

EDIT: I do have a spare ER-5 exhaust in the garage but from what I've read on the internet theres a slim chance this will fit.

Well it looks like that but with scratches its the right hand side which is bad so I could bring that side back up to the same standard.

A lot of parts will need hammeriting I imagine but I plan to do a good job.


EDIT: Just rang my local breakers, and they have found a GPZ exhaust system for sale, but the balance pipe has broken, they claimed that people normally just cut them off or weld them back together again. There is scuffs on it but they only want £40 for the system.

There's not actually an indicator mount on that model. The rubber stem pushes through a hole in the fairing then a metal plate pushes into the back of it to stop it coming out. If you can get the hole in a reasonably shipshape condition, the indicator should fit.

I always used to remove the metal plate and just leave the indicator pushed into the hole so if the bike went down, it would just pop out rather than break.

The standard, well accepted replacement exhaust is a motad nexxus. If you fit one, you'll need to put a couple of washers under the rear belly pan mount on the side the exhaust goes to make it stand away a bit. As standard, it comes too close to the plastic and melts a hole.
