I was wondering if anyone from here had any idea how much a 'friend' Wink should expect to pay for a 1999 R1 with 12000 on the clock?

So would this be a good example of what 'he' could expect to get for his money?

I think your 'friend' should fix their Firestorm and learn to ride it without crashing into things before considering an R1 Wink

He may also want to insure, MOT and tax the thing Rolling Eyes

I'd say not much more than £3k, because it's pretty definately going to have been crashed and had frame repairs.

Yeah thats the thing, all the ones ive seen on ebay have slight fairing damage but seem to be the right price, all the 'mint' ones in biketrader etc.. are a bit overpriced. Might have to get a copy of biketrader this evening instead of using their shitty website.

I was looking around at R1's and 1000's as well as Blades, I really like the look of the R1 and it's build is better quality than the Suzuki too.

How much are you looking to spend? Have you done any quotes yet? I recon there would be quite a difference on the insurance premium over the Storm.

I havent had any quotes in a while but when i was looking a while back a 99 R1 isnt to much more than the Storm, there was about 400 quid in it if i remember. Basically, id have to trade my bike in and have about £1500 cash to play with although with Christmas coming up im sure ill have to wait a bit Smile

I was getting quotes on my storm for when I get my licence back and I thought I'd get a quote on a GSXR1000 for fun while I was there. Guess what... £40 more. "Ok?" So I thought "how about a Hayabusa". £50 more. "Cool" Very Happy

It's amazing really how insurance can vary. I was with Bennetts (Spit) for the R6, I changed the policy over to the first Blade for the last couple of months and paid about £50 extra. When renewal time came they wanted £2100, it was such an unbelievable quote the only thing I could do was laugh in disbelief. So I rang H&R and got a policy for £5 less than I was paying for the R6!

I know we've all done the Firestorm v Blade thing before, but have you considered one? They do stay fresher longer and have got top build quality and have got a better front end than the R1 too. The R1 is a great looking bike though, in fact I was very close to buying an 02 before this Blade. The Editor of Bike mag summed up the Blade quite well when he said "I've never had a bike before that was as much of a soul mate as the Fireblade".

I recon you'd find some 00 and 01's for not much over the £3K mark.

To be honest i hadnt even considered a Blade but since you mentioned it i was looking on BikeTrader.co.uk (spit) and the prices start a bit high, thats the same with the R1's and GSXR's though. Whats a good place to look for 'cheapish' second hand bikes?

This is a 98 but it looks mint https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2442772816&category=9806&sspagename=rvi:1:3

I found mine on Bikemart on the MCN website. The best thing to do is just keep looking at the usual places like Autotrader and Ebay and don't rush it. It's tempting when you've made up your mind to just rush out and get the first thing that looks ok. There are some good deals to be had you just need patience to find them, so if you're not in a rush keep looking.

It's an 02, had a red & black one before it was kindly written off for me. I fancied an 03 but there was quite a price difference between them and the 02. The only difference is the colour schemes, so when this one came up with only 1400 miles on the clock it made sense.

It's easy to love the bike you own and defend it against everything and everyone, but it really is the best bike I've owned. I ride all year round and they have never given me any hassle or worrying moments (touch wood!) and it will easily hold it's own against the full litre bikes, even out handling them out of the crate.

I really wanted the 02 R1 when it came out and didn't even consider the Blade. I couldn't get a decent deal on the R1 at the time so I looked at the Blade (after pressure from the local dealer), after they worked out my px and the deal I couldn't resist it. I liked the bike more each time I rode it and it just seemed to take everything I gave it and asked for more. I liked it so much I bought the company! Oh no, that wasn't me, it was Victor Khyam! Wink

We have just got a minter of a ZX9R in if you're interested. It's a 2000 model on a W plate with 600 (yes, six hundred) miles on the clock. The bloke who owned it never got chance to ride it and wanted a new coffee table for his lounge so the bike had to go to make room for it. It's spotless. Not a single spec of dirt on it, everything is immaculate, even down to the shock linkages, etc. Can't remember how much it's up for off hand, but it's relatively cheap.
