So how long do you think David Beckham has been "mates" with Johnnie Wilkinson then? I could be wrong but he has never mentioned his friendship before Johnnie won the world cup for us. I suspect that because he has not been in the paper for at least 2 days he has to do something to get in the limelight and attaching himself with Wilko should work well for him!

Even if they have recently become friends who can blame them - they do have a lot in common, both being the "golden boys" of their sports.

Wilko is over-rated. Fair enough he's probably the best fly-half in the world, but he doesn't deserve all the hype he gets when you've got the likes of Robinson, Johnson and Delaglio who are fucking awesome.

If anyone, it should be Woodward. It's Woodward that made all this possible. Does it matter who they put on the front page? The reason Wilkinson is on the front page is because he's yound and sellable, kind of like Beckham is in football. The fact that he won us the match makes him all the more popular, if Johnson had scored a drop goal in the last minute of the game to win it then he would probably be on the front page Wink

/me would piss myself laughing if Johnson did actually manage to score a drop-goal. Smile

As far as the team are concerned, with interviews with them, they are more than happy to let Jonny take the press limelight.

To be fair, old Martin isn't the prettiest boy in the world, nor is Delaglio, and Robinson is a crazed, hyperactive animal. Jonny is photogenic, and massively patient. Hence, why he gets all the attention.

I do agree though, you can't single one player out to say that he won the match - and I'm sure Wilkinson would agree. Rugby is a team game, and everyone relies on each other. It took amazing team work to set up the drop goal at the end - they all knew what they had to do, and made the room and position for Jonny to get the goal.

Spot on Anna, it is a team game and yes it was the rest of the team that made the drop-goal possible but in the end 'he' scored it. And youre also spot-on with your comment on his looks, he will sell papers, simple as that.

Have you read any of the Aussie coach's comments? He's still harking on about how drop goal should be worth only one point. Is he too stupid to realise that the only drop goal we scored in that game was the winning one, and we would of won even if it was worth one point.

Arse. They only scored one try in that game as well as us - and that came from a kick...

To be honest i think the Welsh are pathetic, when they play we support them, the only reason they're angry is because we're better than them at 'everything' (apart from laying roads of course) its just total jealously. I wonder what the Welsh reaction would be if they won the World cup? Judging on how excited they were to actually give us a game they would probably all go out and have a mass sheep fudging orgy.

Thats very true CMM. However, he's not just a kicker. If you watched the game then you would of seen 3 particular white shirts in the thick of the action all game long. The number 4(Johnson), the number 9(Dawson) and the number 10(Wilkinson)...

I'm not taking anything away from the rest of the team tho, they were all (well, mebbe apart from Mike 'I don't want the ball' Catt) brilliant on the day.

I happen to think Catt is another of our strong players. He's great! Not quite as much of an animal as Johnson, but a good tactical player.

I think Jonny was there making some of the best tackles too....
