T.C, being an accident investigator i'd assume your a) more likely to know whats legal and whats not when it comes to vehicles and b) your more likely to give a straight answer so here go's.

Is it legal for me to change the coulour of my lights?

I was told by a bike shop that you are legally allowed to change the colour of th bulbs but not allowed to change the colour of the plastic coverings!.

I have to say that i would not trust this bike shop with my license but on my next bike i would really like to have blue bulbs.

Your answer?.

I believe blue is illegal as that colour is reserved for emergency services... Correct me if I'm wrong. Smile

Hi

Headlights must be white as far as I know. However "white" does cover a fair range of colours as far as most people are concerned.

Why do you want blue bulbs? Why do you want to reduce the amount of light that they are putting out?

All the best

Keith

Yep, you aren't supposed to show any forward facing blue lights (I assume rear facing is the same??).

You can buy blue/white bulbs which are legal - Just make the white a bit bluer rather than the 'reddish' white of normal bulbs.

You could get those shitty lenses that go around your bulb to give you that 'xenon' headlight effect without buying xenon's!! Laughing Laughing

And as for changing the plastic coverings, a lot of cars have colour coded lights as standard, so I assume the plastic coverings aren't a problem?

The blue tinted ones that you see fitted as standard to a lot of Mercedes/Vauxhall Omegas etc. are obviously legal, I don't see why they wouldn't be legal on a bike too.

You obviously can't have a pure blue light, green or red.

It would be hell to ride with too surely, trying to navigate your way round country lanes. Also, it draws attention to your bike from bored policemen.

Those are VERY expensive lights, not just a coloured bulb. Basically there is a dirty great transformer for them.

They are also very white from directly in front. It is from an angle that the blue colour becomes noticeable.

All the best
