Shit. My landlady just 'upgraded' to sky from virgin. I had a slower line than that (0.03MB when paying for 8Meg) with o2. They blamed every one and every thing they could possibly do. They even accused me of faking line test results or fiddling with the phone line. We had BT out to look at the line, waited 2 weeks for the line to 'settle', adjusted gain, waited for a server upgrade, did speed tests every 2 hours for weeks on end. Nothing got sorted, no one ever phoned me back and all evidence of me phoning them was always not noted down.

I swapped to BT and within 24hours was getting 7.8MB. After cancelling the account O2 continued attempting to bill me then trying to charge me for the direct debit failing.

Get yourself on BT, they can't blame the line owner instead Razz

They should be able to get you on a faster line.
Why can you only have 1meg? Live out in the sticks?

I'm on the 20mb connection from sky

Hi

Odd thing is that you have a faster upload than download.

All the best

I'll just leave this here...

Very Happy

My brother had Sky at his house, absolutely horrific speeds, I know that the ads say "UP TO" 20mb but 1.5meg at best is a bit of a piss take. Ditched them and went to VM.

Have you got one of those filter things connected as well? I've never played with ADSL before I hear of people using these little boxes that apparently filter out the noise and give you better speeds... Question

Hi

How many phone sockets do you have in the house? How many things do you have plugged in?

These days we have a single directly wired ADSL socket (ie, back to the master socket, nothing to do with the rest of the phones) and totally separate a pair of phone sockets. This was because our house phone wiring was a mess and really screwed up broadband for us (ie, made our pathetic connection even worse).

Also do you have 2 phone lines into the house? Old way to have a 2nd line was to split the 4 wires into a pair, and this causes major problems with ADSL.

All the best

Keith

Your exchange won't be 5 miles away, it will be in shav somewhere, I imagine there is more than one aswell.

We are out in the sticks and we get 2mb on a good day with some broadband reseller meaning we get same speeds and massive FUP. 300gb I think it is at night, 60gb in the day for £20 a month.

When I move out and get my own internet connection, it will be either virgin fibre if I am in the centre of a town/city or BT. If not it will be a reseller because they are less fussy about fair use.

Never ever buy off sky, load of wank.

I can't moan about Sky!

A couple of months ago I downloaded 500gb in 1 month, and they didn't even question it Laughing

I would think this might indicate a physical problem with the line.
Does it go crackly on the phone especially in bad weather?
Usually you should be getting at least twice the speed down as up.

Have you actually phoned BT?

They can check the line for faults over the phone, and they will send an engineer out for free if there is a fault!

Try this link as well!

Check this link to check the line your self:

hmm don't think bt would do anything as the subscriptions off sky and so's the line rental

might ring them up when i get some patience

Yeh but BT own the actual physical phone line so they will. It is their responsibility. Line rental is paid by sky to BT so they can use the line.
