What is high milage for a bike. What I mean is does the engine on a bike last as long as a car's which is good for at least 150,000 miles?

It depends on the bike!

150,000 miles, I'd be very suprised if even the best bike can manage that.
Some 2 strokes don't make it to 25k!

Mate, a bikes engine will usualy last as long as you look after it properly for.

My mate has a FZR1000 and its gone round the clock twice.

Something stupid like 160,000 miles and that was about 3 months ago when I saw him last. He rides it no matter the weater and is always going abroad on it to literally half the moto GP events (where he meets up with the racers, as he runs the British Grand Prix Supporters Club)

His bike is absolutely mint. He looks after it properly and has barely needed to do much to it, just the usual service items.

But then if it is a two stroke... I give it 8,000 kms when looked after welll Laughing

23,400 miles and it went boom. However you can't expect the best engines in the world to last forever Wink

Not at all.

Hi

25000km is only around 16000 miles, which is fairly low mileage. The makers do screw up sometimes (there was a ZX9R stripped down in Bike magazine a few years back that had a knackered main bearing at 25000 miles from faulty assembly).

My old FZ750 is up to 67000 miles.

All the best

Keith

Well, it did get the valves adjusted about 1000 miles ago, for the first time.

All the best

Keith

Honda engines are good, I've heard that Blades go on well past 100,000 miles if looked after so other CBRs should be similar.

My mates ns400 v3 has done 47000 miles, I think most people think 2 strokes are unreliable as they have them when they are young, & dont have the best mechanical sympathy or knowledge, & they tend to be small in engine size & have the living shit revved out of them. poor things Very Happy

Any modern 4 cylinder engine should last past 100k, although you do get dodgy examples, like ste's old engine.

Inline 4's tend to last longer from what i've seen, V twins the least long because they have less balanced forces which stretches out the camchains.

Generally engines under 250cc don't last that long either, curious exception being the CBR250 which is a solid little lump if you keep it well maintained and feed it good oil.

I'd expect 100k from a modern CBR6, however the camchains/tensioners could be a bit suspect and give up the ghost before 40k on the very early ones.

If an engine is looked after properly, then high milages are perfectly achievable and in fact get better as the mileage piles on.

My first CBR1000 which I brought new I sold at 178,000 and is still going strong at 350,000+ miles on the original engine, my second CBR1000 I sold at 124,000 miles, my GSXR1100WP was stolen at 158,000 miles and my last Blackbird I sold at 140,000 miles. I had them all from new and all were running as sweet as a nut the day I sold them and none of them gave me any problems.

At just over 10,000 miles my current Blackbird still feels a little tight Wink

I needed a complete top end rebuild at that milege...
But bleh what can you do. I dont think many 2 stroke engines
last a great deal, as most end up being neglected or crashed.

Ones that do get high milege you'd find older generation using them as a play thing of winter hack, or even as a commuter if thats possible.

Still think a 2 stroke engine will last fairly long on the bottom end. but obviously no where near as long as say a 4 stroke equivelent... (looks at CG...)
