I've wanted a little project bike for a while now but since I've never done it before I don't know what to look for.

I'm fairly new so it can't be anything too complicated and the bike has to be sub 1k. So what do you think? I may end up doing this because my bike doesn't looks like it's going to sell Crying or Very sad

I was thinking along the lines of a VFR400 or similar?

you could always buy something smaller that you're almost guaranteed to make a return on. Ie: my suzuki marauder 125 for £650 Wink needs a cosmetic tidy and thats about it. 2002 on a 52 plate with 10k

Hmm... Not complicated. Ok. VFR 400... Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

No, if you want not complicated buy a two stroke single or something. NOT a gear driven cam micro V4.

Project bike suggestion fail.

In fact, you can have my MZ for £400 if you want it. It runs and will pass an MOT but I can't be arsed to get it out and sort it.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

What do you want to do to it? Just fix it up? Something simple like a GS500 or an ER-5...maybe? I don't think I'd want to risk my own mechanical ineptitude on anything I might actually want to keep. The above are simple, cheap and parts should be abundant on eBay.

yeah I realised after I read it again Laughing

An RS or Mito could be interesting. However my bike has met the reserve so as long as the buyer is genuine this might have to wait a while Doh!

A Project is anything you want it to be.
What KIND of project do you want?
If you want to learn mechanics, then you dont want a cosmetic damaged salvage job that just needs a couple of panels & some paint, but if all you want is a cheap ride, & street-fighter a mangled plastic fantastic, possibility is there.
WARNING: Few 'projects' are cheaper than buying a bike that's already street-legal & ride away ready.
There's often a lot of fools accounting in a lot of projects, & people kid themselves that they have built a bargain. Few do.
But, a well considered & well executed project CAN give you a 'better' bike for your money; one thats modded, customised the way you want it, or built with added life and or performance.
So after that, what would you like to do? Build a Show-custom, Street-Racer Special, Rally-Bike, Rat, what?
Budget, facilities, expertise, what can you give the project, what you going to need?
Nop one can TELL you what to buy for a 'project', you have to design your project yourself, starting with what you want out of it!

While I generally advise against chinese bikes, if you do a lot of research, you can often pick one up for very little than can quite cheaply be upgraded with select japanese bits to be reasonable reliable.
But you do have to really do your research on selecting the right model.
