I couldn't connect to the internet last night, apparently UK Internet Services hackers are attempting to bring down UK ISP's with DDoS attacks on DNS servers.

Apparently we can expect complete loss/slow service from NTL, BT, Blueyonder, Demon, Pipex and Freeserve, currently un-affected are Nildram.

Part of the hacker competition called the loft.

Bloody kids. Rolling Eyes Laughing

According to pipex one of the main UK-US backbone links was down yesterday. Dunno if thats true or if they're just trying to cover up the fact that they got hacked...

Heh, my internet was only half working last night. One minute it was loading certain sites, then the next it'd switch and target another bunch of crap.

You receive mail with POP on port 110 usually, Outlook Express is a client you can use to receive the mail, this has nothing to do with port 80 at all. You usually send mails on port 25, so this also would not be affected.

Hotmail is a web based, so yes, you will not be able to check your mail using hotmail as this runs off a webserver, which runs on port 80.

Glad I have Nildram then. Still normally takes 3 or 4 attempts to connect.

My brother had me messing about with the PC downstairs last night trying to get NTL Dialup to work. It would dial out and then say the remote machine did not respond in a timely maner or with the expected reply. We thought my dad had screwed it up (again) so I was there for ages. Evil or Very Mad

Kev, get adaware that should deal with the pop ups (from download.com)

If your still getting them then are you using Kazaa or some other program?

If not, then stop looking at cheap porn sites with lots of pop ups and viruses!! Laughing

People keep saying that to me to stop all the pop`ups but What i want to do is actually stop them coming rather than just blocking them.

Ad Aware will do that though Kev.

Well, to an extend anyway.

Pop ups , if not from the actuall website your on. Will come from files stored on your computer from ad companies. Ad Aware finds these bastard files and deletes them, stopping pop ups (to an extend)

It's free, very easy to use and takes 2 mins to run.. Worth trying!?

If you have Norton Systemworks installed (Or I think it is in Norton Internet Security) you can set an Ad and/or pop up blocker. Some of the Popups do sneak through and you manually can tell Norton to stop them as well.
