im turning 17 soon and i already have a CBT licence , i have had 2 mopeds , first bike was a £500 brand new chinese motorbike which never let me down , but after a few months i wanted something faster and bought a Speedfight 50 , i had alot of problems with this.

i need help on what motorbike to get because i can not do gears :/
i find them really hard , is their any decent brand new automatic 125cc motorbikes that i could buy ?
or even a geared 125 that has a sporty look but would have less power so it would be easier to learn gears on ?

cheers

125 4strokes with gears don't have much power. Usually around 15hp.

Gears are easy once you get the hang of it.

Stick with Japs or other well known makes.

You may have had a good experience with a Chinese bike but from what I have heard and experienced, Chinese bikes quality is awful compared to most Japanese bikes which is why they cost £500 new rather than £2k.

If you are going to buy a bike just for looks then so be it, we can't tell you anything but most people on here will say get a 4t 125 and save up for your big bike test.

You can get a brand new Yamaha YBR or Honda CBF with that money, fresh out of the showroom, but might be a pain in the bum to run their engines in - keeping the revs low for the first 600 miles, as the manufacturer will recommend. They should throw in the 600 mile service for free as well and you shouldn't have reliability issues with either of those bikes. The CBF looks a bit more 'sportier' than the YBR and has a screen. Fuel economy is stupidly low - people report 130mpg on it. Yamaha also still produce the XT125 and WR125 models if you like off-road looks.

You will get raped on finance. If you can save up you'll get the bike cheaper in the long run. Stick with a cheap well known bike for a first 125 if you're young, as you've a higher chance of throwing it down the round and losing all or most of your money on a flash looking bike. A CBR125 will get expensive if you break the plastics.

Pulse Adrenalin etc are Chinese. Reliability with them is not going to be as good as Honda/Yahama/Suzuki, and spares if you need them are going to be hard to find and more expensive.

A popular bike will be easier to find spares for, especially cheap stuff from broken bikes on ebay.

You've only got the DNA125 and scooters as far as automatic bikes go. Get a mate to show you how gears work and get a geared bike. Does your CBT cover you for geared use if you only passed it on an automatic?

Yamaha YZF 125 is on 0% fiancne I believe but over 3K.

You can get a 09,10 for 2500 with low miles. Just go see the bike and haggle, a friend of mine sold his 2010 for £2500.

Maybe learn gears on a CBT? You already have one but maybe ask if they can do a cheap lesson?

I've got a 57 plate Huoniao HN125, a grand brand new OTR and it's been as reliable as i could ever wish for. Just 5500 on the clocks now and no bother at all. Think you can get them with a year warranty as well but don't quote me on that, just rings a bell

If you can legally get finance, you can legally get a loan.
You can't legally get either, as far as I know.

Generally more power will make gears easier to learn.
Less power means you need to use the gears more.
However, for most people, just getting out there and riding you generally get used to it fairly quickly.

In my first CBT and the first few times I rode I was certainly far from comfortable with them. Few years ago now, but since I've done touring, racing (quite a few kinds of on and off road), stunting and plenty of other stuff.

Embarassed, ta - I may have been half right, at least Smile.
In some cases, less gears means you really have to be careful about choosing the right one. In others, though, it's that way because there's a broader range of power (less so in 125s, usually it's just money saving!)

So how / why exactly are you struggling with gears? I'm hardly a natural at things, but it;s something i got to grips with riding round the block. Or is it the clutch your struggling with?

I know gears is a big hassle when you've just been using automatic twist and goes and your probably worried of destroying it or not being able to ride it properly.. it took me around 2hours to jump from a year of automatics to geared to get the hang of it, just remember to keep the clutch in and drop the gears down when you come to stops such as roundabouts.. that was not funny stalling it in 2nd gear and wondering what was wrong with it Mr. Green fun times.. but geared bikes are definately the way forward Thumbs Up

I'd personally suggest what i'm riding at the moment, a Kymco KR125 sport, made in tawian and reliable like the honda CBR125, I've popped 7.5k milage on it and never had any issues apart from changing the battery as the previous owner had it sat in a garage for sometime.
