Hello all,
I know that if I want a cheap 125 then I can go Chinese for 1/2 the price of a Jap bike as long as I accept lower quality.

But, what if I want a 600cc or bigger bike ? Is there a cheap option at that end of the market ?

Not really but then why would you want lower quality but at a higher speed.

Just get a older decent bike.

They're not really cheaper either.
Ie, the price of the faired 'sporty' one falls in between the half and fully faired SV - but the fully faired SV you get more stuff with I think.

China are starting to make some bigger bike I believe (got a feeling there's a KLR alike around), but suspect they're not allowing them to be exported because of quality issues.

As above, you can get a second hand 'big bike' in good nick that will last you a long time from £500 or less. Sure you have to be careful when buying, but still less so than when choosing a Chinese bike!
Exactly what I'd do if I wanted a cheap 125 too.

Think the only decent 'reason' to get a chinky is if you get one second hand very cheaply for a project for the sake of a project.

This. My bike is 19 years old 750 and its bullet proof. The only problem I have had with the thing is the recent broken speedo needle, battery and a slight electrical wire fault that was easily fixed.

The bike got me to cornwall and back yesterday. Total of 200 miles each way pretty much non stop apart from fuel stops without a hitch.

Want a cheap big bike. Go old. If it goes wrong it wont cost a few hundred quid just to plug it into the computer to find out whats wrong and most mechanics will fix it where lots wont touch a chinese bikes

You could go Spanish with a Derbi or Rieju, or maybe English with a CCM? Prices are halfway between Chinese and Japanese, quality's better than Chinese. My Rieju has felt very well put together.

You do get more cc for your cash.

There are bargains to be had, but you need to know what to look for or you will end up with a donkey.
