Looking at a bike at cooperb motorcycles, but slightly concerned because some of their prices actually look reasonable, which worries me for a dealer.

Anyone used them before or heard anything about them?

A 58 plate Hypermotard for almost 5.5K! You'll usually struggle to find one under 7K at that age.

Might just be a decent dealer with very little overheads Neutral

That Ex BSB ZX6RR for sale at 3,998 is very tempting.

Plenty of ex-BSB bikes around - I've pointed out in the past that you could buy last year's BSB (superbike) and some road kit for a lot less than the price of the ducati-desmo thingy with probably a fair bit better performance.

No reason why not; can remember some years ago a magazine getting a 500cc gp bike MOT'd and do the shopping on it.

BSB bikes are all based on road bikes, usually bought from Yamaha or whoever, but not registered as there's no point. Obviously you will have to meet road regulations, but no reason why you can't. If it was a bike designed purely for competition (ie moto-gp bike etc), it'd be a lot more hassle, but any of production classes should be easy.

I bought my very first bike from them. It was a ZXR400 L9 on an '03 plate. After literally two weeks the downpipes rusted through at the collector (I was young and foolish and didn't check them prior to purchase Embarassed ). The bike came with a warranty so I rung them up and explained the situation.

Their only offer was to take the bike back to them (about 150 miles away) and they'd weld it up. They knew full well that I wouldn't be able to get it to them, couldn't ride it there as the hole was too big and at the time I didn't have a van. They also knew full well that they wouldn't be able to weld it back together as it was too far gone. They had me by the short and curlies and they knew it.

In the end I got a cheque for about £60, but had to fork out over £200 for a replacement pipe to be fitted by my local bike shop. Fortunately as the bike was so cheap I sold it a few months later and made a profit even with the extra expense incurred.

I wouldn't buy another bike from them personally after this incident but there are worse dealers out there. I'm sure you'll be a lot more thorough in your inspection of the bike before purchase than I was. Just don't expect much from the 'warranty'.

Cheers for the info Thumbs Up. Phoned up and bike's sold anyway.

I would have been treating it as a private sale re-checking it over anyway - hopefully would have noticed signs of clocking, but can't be sure and didn't want to waste my time if they were dodgy.
Getting £60 out of them seems quite a result considering many garages!
Buying from a garage does also mean, though it's a load of hassle, if it all goes wrong you can take them to court for 'not fit for purpose sold' - and I would expect it'd be taking them to court for your average dealer not them sorting it, sadly.

Was just editing my post to include:

In fact thinking about it, it took a phone call from Trading Standards to even get the £60. They were originally going to give me naff all. I can understand that they don't want to be paying a 3rd party for labour and full price parts, that's fair enough but they should want to satisfy their customers. If I'd of taken the bike to them it would of cost them £100 for the part and a mechanics time.

As I said though, there are worse dealers out there and the cheapness of the bikes is a bit of a trade off against customer service. It's not often you can buy a bike from a dealer, put 8k kms on it then sell it on for a profit Laughing .

i guess they do have lowish overheads as they appear to operate out of a rental unit on a farm in the wilds of northamptonshire.

i believe the bloke that owns it started by selling bikes on ebay and it grew from there.

i see they appear to be agents for 'Sinnis' - i wonder where they are made...! Sick

still the groan-making pun of the dealership name should be enough to put anyone off... Laughing

Well my Friend at work knows the owner and he said that they were ok like any bike sale take someone along with you and have the bike checked out before parting with your money the onus is on the shop to make sure that the bike is good but also on the buyer too. Also find out about any defect found how will they deal with it at a later stage !!

COOPERB Motorcycles !

I bought a Ducati to Cooperb Motorcycles: was paid and delivered, no problem.

I wanted to buy a second motorcycle: what a disaster !!!

Ian Cooperb accepted a deposit of 100£ on a Buell: he made a mistake and sold the bike to another person ...

Cooperb refuses to give the deposit back and wants I buy another bike. But I'm not interested in another motorcycle!

Can not get my money back.
Ian Cooperb is a crook and dishonest.
I proved that his son Jack made a mistake ... Ian COOPERB and even claimed not to know his own son: Incredible!

It's useful to hear about such experience, but please keep to posting each post once Thumbs Up.
If you need general legal suggestions to help your situation, members of the forum would probably help if you detailed the situation.

Thank you for the advice.

For a deposit of £ 100 only ... it 's not much to do!
I don't live in the UK and Cooperb make advantage of this situation.

Too complicated for a foreigner to make a legal proceeding for 100 GBP, although I have all the evidence.

Perhaps I can avoid it happening again with other.
Regards

If you do things right then they'd pay up before it got to the point of you starting legal proceedings. Thumbs Up

Me and my dad have been up there a few times, seem reasonable enough lads, dad bought a xjr1300 from them, had a top rubber gasket leak somewhere, they sorted it out pretty quickly. They do sell alot of sinnis stuff up there.. and it is located on a farm Razz But hey ho..

This isn't the first bike I bought in England and I was already a customer at Cooperb Motorcycles.

First he offered to buy another bike.

No other bike interested me and, since March 2009, prices of Cooperb motorcycles have increased: so I asked my deposit back.

Everyone (shop) can make a mistake and sell a motorcycle with an option... It can happen.

But if you're correct: you apologize and give the deposit back.
What disgusted me: it is his way of doing things and his dishonesty.

Some have a problem with money and never want to give the money back !
