Yes.. 3 litre tank Laughing

Bought this today from ipswich...picked up in...the car. Not as super as the GSXR in a clio, but a 125 pit in a supra, quite a feat!

Few quick problems/questions aswell posted both here and workshop just incase someone checks this and not the 'shop Thumbs Up

Only seems to run with choke on, when you take it off even trying to hold throttle open it gurgles and dies Sad

Also the chain, im used to bike chains.. but this set up looks a bit different to mine Neutral

Im guessing thats way too loose as I can hear/feel it when riding, the back wheel felt very wobbly!

I know binge had one, have pm'd him but if anyone knows anything about these bikes, please share Thumbs Up

Don't know if it's of any relevance, but my CG had the same problem you've mentioned regarding the choke.

Ran with choke, turn it off and it'll gurgle then proceed to die a death until the choke is back on.

Seemed to run fine after I sorted the valve clearances, so might be worth a look. Check the carb also. And I'd definitely say get a new chain.

Steve.

The chain is <400 miles old... the bikes covered around 370 miles.
Theres lots of adjustment left, but unsure of how this style works?
The engine is some form of cub replica, only good for around 65mph.. but its awesome fun Laughing

I was thinking maybe its getting too much air... as the choke restricts that, but its stock and have 370 on the clock Confused

When I first had mine, I was thinking I was taking the choke off, but I was putting it on full, then it would die.

We can presume that quality isn't amazing. May not have done many miles, but as it's two years old and probably been a bit neglected, wouldn't be surprised if it's knackered.
The chain should be checked when the swing arm is 'straight', as it will be at the tightest then.
Otherwise, chain looks normal Confused.

I'd start by stripping and cleaning the carb (should be easy) and air filter.
Only running with choke suggests it's too lean, so needs the extra mixture. But I'd start by cleaning stuff

Oh and a bit more 'utilitarian' vehicle, but Korn'd get three people and three pit bikes in his Mondeo Smile.

Should be at Four Marks Thursday/Friday with my 'fiddy' if you want to come play Smile.

Found the problem re: choke... theres no mixture screw, jammed one from another bike in there and voila ticks over with 0 choke, obviously doesnt stay in the hole.. but atleast the problem is found!

The guy has owned it since 08, first owner, kinda geeky guy like me Laughing Said hes only used in summer this year, last year had a football injury and even showed me medical certificates as I asked why he was getting rid. Clutch just went on his car so hes re-mot'ing it with a new clutch hence needs the cash. He seemed a very honest guy and I kinda trust someone on my nerd level Cool

By straight you mean someone sat on it? Ive never had this sort of chain setup where it has some roller and a guard on the swing arm etc.

Most bikes have a guard on the swingarm. A lot of dirt bikes have the roller as the chains generally are run a bit looser and are definitely being bounced about a lot more from the terrain.

To tighten the chain, slacken the axle. And in FRONT of the 'adjusters' is a bolt. Turn it anti clockwise and itll push the axle back. Do this on both sides.

Yea i know how to adjust a chain... its just this one and all bikes i look at with this setup have the chain swinging slightly, looks fairly loose!

D O G .. Laughing

G - Do you think that chains fine? When im coming to a stop using engine braking you can hear the chain "muttering"? feels like its shaking the rear wheel slightly? Ive checked every bolt and they are all tight, all I can think is the chain is still fairly loose? Also is it meant to be a bit tighter on the top half of the chain and a bit loose on the lower half? if not.... oh crap Laughing

Set up the chain tension when the swingarm is 'straight' - basically it should be inline with the pivot and the front sprocket. This is the tightest point.

Top bit of chain is often tighter thanks to the engine 'pulling' on that, then there's gravity etc.

When you've got your chain tension set, check for side to side play. If it moves a decent amount side to side, you need to replace the chain.

Check the wheel bearings on the rear wheel by holding the bike and trying to pull on the top of the wheel towards the side of the bike.

Thanks mate, very helpful Thumbs Up

Sprocket has 428 139, I take it a new chain would be the 428 pitch, 139 links.. If so i'll check side to side play and get one ordered if its excessive.

I'll do them checks in a minute.
