No not a perv in a rain coat but i got flashed on my way home today but it was fine as i was coming towards the camera so they just got the front of my bike. I passed my test a week ago today and i have three points on it from my provisional, how many points am i allowed to get before getting banned or do i have to keep below a lower amount because i have only just passed. Any help will be great.
Thank You

Ohhh the miserable old men syndrome is about again Smile

12 points is a ban (AFAIK).

I would not have thought the number will be lower because you have just passed. 12 strikes and your out.

Give him a chance he didn't say he was worried. Rolling Eyes

Normally you're allowed up to 6 points for the first 2 years after you passed your test, and if you get 6 points in that period you have to re-take your test. As you've already got 3 points, you only need to get done once more for another 3 points and you'll have to re-take the test again.

I didn't know that!!! So I guess it is not 12 for a provisional either.

You're aloud 12 on a provisional, if you get more then 6 on your provisional you have to wait for some of those points to clear before you can go take the full test (anyopne gonna correct me on this?).

You can get up to 12 on a provisional licence, they just remain dormant until you have passed your test. That doesn't mean that if you've got 6 or more you will immediately have to re-take upon passing the test, it just means the next time you get any amount of points you will have to re-take.

You sure about that Maurice? I though you were only allowed up to 6 points on a provisional and they did start counting down to being cleared from your licence.

/ me waits for TC to clarify the matter

I with Danny on this, afaik you're allowed up to 6 on a provisional or in the first two years after having passed your test, before you loose your licence.

No I believe it is 12 on the provisional, not sure what they do when you pass your test after getting those point on your provisional though?

But as people have already said 6 points in the first 2 years after passing your test means you will have to re-take (though there is no ban for only getting 6 points) and 12 points in any case means a minimum of 6 months ban under the totting up procedure whatever type of licence you have. Smile

I don't think anyone told me, I think I just misunderstood, or did not take in what people said regarding full licences. I thought they would have been the same. You live and learn eh. Confused

As an aside, does anyone remember the infamous Peter Bottomley? Tory transport minister in the late 1980s who made himself really unpopular by talking about compulsory leg protectors being fitted to bikes. Result was a 100000+ signature petition to have him sacked. Well, he has just been banned from driving for accumulating 12 points from speeding.

All the best

Keith
