Hello,

Im quite new to bikes, I got my cg125 last week and trying to get it to a decent standard. Ive done a lot on cars before though.

Its a bit slow - struggling to get 60 on a flat road. I done the valve clearances today which were out quite a bit (0.25mm on intake).
I was hoping this would give it a bit more go but I cant say it did, other than me being more happy to rev it.

In 3rd gear to 50mph, then staying in 4th, it takes about a mile to get 60. It got to 62mph which seems its limit for flat road.

I *was* going to do a compression test today - but as usual the adaptor didnt fit the spark plug hole. So will have to wait...

It seems the neutral gear switch or cable inside the gearbox has gone bad. This would be quite useful, but probably not worth the effort.

Also where to buy cheap parts? I think it needs a new set of switches, for the right indicator and brake lights...

thanks
Mark

Consider your self lucky, mine screamed at me doing 50 and threatened to blow up at 60. I could only get to 60 down hill with the wind behind me. It had 17,000 on the clock though.

Putting a larger front chain sprocket 1 or 2 teeth or smaller rear sprocket less 3 or 4 teeth might give you a bit more top speed.

Making a K&N air filter fit may require the Carb jet going up a size, this is another option.

cg150 Cylinder head would fit straight on to, again this would require a carb up-jet. https://dadeemotor.en.hisupplier.com/product-203021-CG-125-150cc-Spare-Parts.html

I heard you can get 1 to 3 BHP more from fitting an after market chinese muffler too.

cg125's can also be adapted for nitrous oxide injection, but you will blow up the engine.

Good luck with that!

Bike part's aren't cheap. But look on ebay anyway.
60 on the flat does sound a bit pants. My old CB125 would do 75 on a loooong straight, but that was a twin. even so i'd expect an indicated 65 on the flat. Compression check, check the plug colour, adjust the mixture screw to just richer than the factory standard, make sure everything is clean inside the carb and pipes, check the exhaust ins't blowing and that the gearing is standard, check the tire pressure etc.

Cleaning and setting the carb might help you get a few extra mph depending on how old the bike is and how much maintainance has been done. However, i wouldnt expect much more ooomph from a cg.

My CG was about 65 indicated on the flat after some time - remember this is a bike built for simplicity and economy, rather than performance.

Does your bike only have 4 gears?
If so, does it also have a square headlight?
There was a batch for asian markets imported a few years ago which seemed to be of generally lower spec - a gear less and a bit less power. Top speed of these was in the high 50s I think.
