The Sherminator... my pet tortoise. Sherman for short.

Found him in the garden of my student house in September last year. Been on a few nights out, he's generally a hero.

Has grown a couple of CM since I found him, can still sit in the palm of my hand though.

He is a Russian Tortoise. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_Tortoise)

I suggest you don't keep him in that vivarium any longer and do some research on dietary needs as feeding him lettuce will not be doing him any favours at all. Smile

Vivariums do not give the required ventilation, space or micro climates.

The lettuce and what-not are too high in protein and have a terrible calcium to phosphorous ratio. You can already see that it has previously been fed a very unbalanced and inadequate diet due to the shape of the shell - it could eventually cause kidney disease and other metabolic bone diseases.

I suggest you read up on the tortoise trust website - this will give you details information on the husbandry of the Horsefield.

I don't mean to preach it's just not very many people realize the risks of what they are doing.
