The whole loyalty card is one big marketing excercise. Even though they claim its to keep customer loyalty, its really a neat and legal way of tracking what customers buy which products where using the rewards system.

Hopefully that will give you some food for thought! Smile

The main ways that marketing research can be classified is as either primary or secondary and as either external or internal. Primary is research that the company collects itself so its more specific and relevant but its more expensive and time consuming. If the research is secondary then its data that was originally collected for another purpose, like they could use data from the census or something. This is obviously cheaper but it won't be as relevant and it is likely to be out of date. The research can also be classified based on whether it is internal or external to the company. So, census data would be external and secondary, syndicated research studies (like the JD Power survey) are external and primary, internal and secondary might be company financial reports, internal and primary would be like the instore survey you mentioned.
Mention things like focus groups, questionnaires, test marketing, in-depth interviews and observational studies.
Doing well in business studies is all about throwing the right terms around.
