I was wondering... has anybody done any of the California Superbike Schools at Silverstone? I am considering doing Level 1 and some track days next riding season but wanted to know if they were any good and what people thought of them.

They promised various things to me which didn't really hold true (ie; there will be other people there similar speed to you, etc).

They are really quite rigid in their teaching structure.

However, a lot of people find it does really help their riding. I still did take a few bits away from it, but for me a lot of the time seemed to have been a waste of money - however I was club racing at the time.

Personally, I'd recommend doing a trackday or three first, before doing it. While this will give you a bit of time to get some 'bad habits' in, it'll also give you time to get an idea of where you need to improve and be generally 'comfortable' with track riding.

Finally, I'd recommend you DON'T do it at Silverstone - they use the Stowe circuit, which is frankly pathetic - I've seen bigger and much better tracks set out in a car park! At Brands Hatch, Rockingham etc they do actually use a proper circuit with proper corners etc.

My first trackday was on one of those Novice only days that MSV run, they are pretty cheap off season and you get loads more track time then at the race schools, with instructors on hand if you want them.

I've never done the California superbike school but it says on the website that they use Stowe circuit and the southern circuit on different dates.
The Southern one is pretty fast as it includes the hangar straight, club, vale and then cuts infield at abbey. I think its the circuit layout that the Ron Haslam race school uses as well.

Ah, it was a few years ago I did it, to be fair.
I'd definitely avoid the stowe circuit.
