My headlight for my NSR125 has a crack in it. It was on the bench because the NSR was in parts. The kitchen cupboard fell off the wall and cracked my headlight. Will this fail an MOT. The light still works fine and everything.

Cheers. Thumbs Up Karma

Shouldn't think it would affect it passing as long as it isn't distorting the beam direction. You may just get an advisory to change it, but don't think it would fail..

Where abouts is the crack?

There are two cracks. It's the fox eye light, the cracks are to the outside edge of the left 'eye' and the right hand corner of the right 'eye'. I will take a pic but I'm off to bed got work tommorow, will put one up when I get in tommorow night.

I'd expect it to fail if it was letting in condensation. Might depend on the tester and the sort of day he's had. Next year it'll more likely fail as it'll let water in and the reflective mirroring inside the light will corrode.

However, your kitchen is a definite failure, I'm afraid.

A motor bicycle first used before 1 January 1931 does not need a headlamp.
You could totally remove the head light but if we are being realistic here which we will have to be:

Headlight inspection
Reason for MOT rejection:

You could fail on inspection 3.a

1. The headlamp does not emit a light which is substantially WHITE or YELLOW in colour
2. a. does not have at least one headlamp which illuminates when selected on:
(i) dipped beam
(ii) main beam

b. operation of the dip switch does not
(i) extinguish all main beam
headlamps and leave on at least one dipped beam headlamp, or
(ii) deflect the main beam/s to make them dipped beam/s.

c. either beam as selected is affected by the operation of another lamp or the horn, or which flickers when tapped lightly by hand (See info column)

3. a. a headlamp missing or so damaged or deteriorated that its function is impaired. (See info column)
b, an insecure headlamp.

4. A faulty or insecure switch.

Great little site this check everything before you take it in.
