there are a few places of rust on my bike on the brake lever and gear lever. i'm guessing it is where boots have been rubbing on the metal. anything i can do to stop it rusting up again. thought about painting it, but am worried the paint will just rub off onto my boots.

ideally you wand to sand the rust off and then repaint. if you repaint over that then it'll just rot away on the inside.

ACF50 all over it will slow the corrosion process.

If not, use it till it rots away, then buy another lever Wink

Ideally Smile I'd replace them. Probably cheaper than the materials needed for painting. Save the good ones for summer.

i have paint, so buying stuff isn't a problem, just worried that it won't last. it's annoying me as it is the only thing that isn't spotless and shiny on my bike.

Have it powder coated.

It will wear off after a very long time but it is very hard so shouldn't transfer to your boots.

Personally, I'd just hammerite it. Once properly cured (i.e. 2 weeks) it is actually very hard and should be fine.

+1 with the Hammerite

I've used it quite extensively in the past when working at a truck garage - the brake shoes got cleaned off and covered in Hammerite before putting new brake pads on. Hardy stuff!!
(I also "redirected" some of it to repaint the metal shutter door on the garage Thumbs Up )
