can anyone tell me how to test a heater control knob in my car? its a focus and its the heater speed control i need to test? ive got a multi meter.

ALSO a random question but how free/stiff should the heater motor/fan be to turn by hand? should it have a small amount of resistance on it or keep spinning freely after ive span it?

thanks for any help

Easy fella, you're going to get yourself in trouble with that kinda radical thinking. Laughing

I don't think the focus uses the same heater control valve as the fiesta/ka/puma but if it does then it's a known common point of failure.

I only say this as I assume the only reason you'd ask such a question is if your heaters are playing up.

I had to replace the heater control valve on my fiesta last week. Fifteen quid off eBay and half an hour to fit it. Might be worth checking yours isn't suffering the same fault as mine.

thanks....

i just bought a trade in car from a dealership that i work for. got it for my step dad to take his dog out save getting his car all shitty.
3 main problems it could be-

-heater motor-it does feel stiff and could be the bearings they say.so just wanted to know if the fan itself should have resistance as it feels a tad stiff.

-resistor- ive changed this and still doesnt work.ive been told these blow if the bearings on the fan seize up as it gets too much power/heat going through

-switch-need to know how to use a multi tester on it.ive now worked out the switch is ok. if i turn AC on and then turn the heater switch from 0 to 1 you can hear the AC power up so i know the swich is doing its job.

im off outside now to rip the motor out.
oh and fit a tow bar to the van for the trailer and crossers Very Happy

thanks for the help
