Hi there,
my mums new bloke has this poncy little Aixam car (2cyl diesel thing)
The problem is you turn the key off, and the engine keeps running. Everything else goes off, lights etc, so im assuming the ignition is fine?
Anything simple i can try? I told him to stall it, but its an auto, so its still idling now. How do you stop a diesel engine, because its got no electrics to keep it going?
Thanks

Cut off the fuel. Simples.

Dunno how you'd go about doing that though.

If you unscrewed the battery connectors would that stop the fuel pump?

Not sure exactly how that engine works but on the fuel pump there should be a shut off switch of some sort, maybe it is jammed.

Cover the open end of the exhaust with something non flamable should make the engine stop.

Could be the engine has had it's oil overfilled and is pulling oil from the sump into the cylinder bore.

One of these?

If so, put a gun to his head and force him to eat it. Being eaten should cause the engine to stop.

Find a fuel hose and stick some locking pliers (with sockets over the ends to remove the sharp edges) on the hose to restrict the fuel supply and kill it off.

Not sure if all diesel engines need to be rebled after running out of fuel though, my diesel doesn't like running out.

cover the exhaust. Use your shoe or something. It'll kill it.

Used to get this happening a lot with old diesels. Blip the accelerator quickly to lean out the mixture and starve the engine.

By the way, Martay, there's a specific forum for your Vixen if you ever have any problems with it.

When I had a solenoid break down (there's your Google-fu phrase!) on an old Renault diesel, I had no way of stopping it other than putting it in gear, hoiking up the handbrake and 'softly' stalling it. New solenoid was only a couple of quid though.

the stop solenoid has gone, you should find near the pump a manual stop lever that will kill the engine

Thanks for the replys. I stopped it!! Stamped on the throttle repeatedly to flood it. I tried blocking the exhaust but it kept chugging, i think its blowing from the manifold :/
Yes Danny, one of them!! Its horrific!
Il look into changing the stop solenoid. Thanks!

As he said, it's an auto.

Check the oil level now it's stopped, could be overfilled.
