Don't know if this is a stupid question, but...

If I have an accident on my bike & make a claim, do I need to inform my car insurance about it?

Technically on renewal you should state you have made a claim.

But they don't care if you have 10 million claim free years on a bike so why should you tell them if you've had a bump on a bike which in no way says anything about your car driving.

I haven't told either my car insurance or my bike insurance about claims from each other (i.e car insurance being informed about a claim on the bike) but come renewal I will.

There is probably a statement in your documentation that implies you should.

Could risk not getting a payout if you don't and need to claim, they are slippery barstewards and if they can avoid paying out they certainly will do.

So, I am going to be insuring my Derbi soon with MCE, hopefully as I have heard they are very cheap and plenty of mates use them.

Question is as I have been searching quotes on Go Compare, they have the option for 'De-restricted' and 'performance exhaust'.

Obviously my bike is de-restricted and one part of me says I should click this option, doesn't change my quote. This is however, illegal and does not correspond with my licence. I could put the exhaust on too, but whats your opinion.

And, there are options like handlebars and stuff and I have got a pair of renthals on mine but do I really need to list this?

If you are riding not in accordance with your licence you won't be covered anyway so you could put down that you ride a chocolate teapot for all the difference it'll make.

Have you still got all the standard stuff?
I told my car insurer the car was standard...but didn't tell them I have
18 inch alloys or a respray, they collected £152 when I crashed :/

If you have standard stuff, don't bother declaring and when you smash it, swap bits over. If you don't have the standard parts.. Declare it, just not the restriction if you are 16.. You are only allowed 30mph...

wouldnt tell them about de-restriction though, think of how many rs125's you see on l-plates, most of them are f/p.
would definately tell hem about any prior claims, simply because they will try anything to avoid paying out,
cheers,

MCE are good, I'm now going on for my second year with them. Telling them about the accident in my car made very little difference, even better.

I'd tell them about any modifications which alter the performance, e.g. race system etc but leave anything out which does not. In your case it means you are riding illegally so its probably best you don't.

Sorry, meant to create another thread Embarassed

Anyway, yes I do have the original parts (exhaust and bars etc.)

So you think I should stick on the exhaust but not the derestriction? (My exhaust comes restricted as standard anyway - Metrakit thrower)

Or just not declare it but what if I end up in hospital and then I can't swap teh exhaust?

And the bars/new light/new brakes?

Thanks for teh help Mr. Green
